Ammon's back in surgery

Mom called to say they are talking Ammon in to do a tracheotomy this afternoon. I believe they are going to do it such that it will be a temporary solution. In other words, they hope to be able to reverse it in the future if the throat responds or recovers or whatever. But for now, it looks like Ammon will have the breathing assistance directly into his throat. See http://www.tracheostomy.com/faq/what.htm for some information.

The really frustrating thing is that all of this could have possibly been avoided. The vocal cord damage happened as a result of a 4-day intubation after his summer surgery. Mom and Dad have been given the run-around at PCMC by doctors and ENTs and Dad has been a stickler this time -- Mom says Dad has done very well as Ammon's advocate up there since the doctors don't seem to have the same objective (namely, a solution).
