I'm sorry if this grosses people out. This is my knee tonight. As a last ditch effort to get rid of the constant pain, the doctor told me to get some therapy treatment called "Astym." I apparently have patellar tendonitis and there is still a lot of scar tissue at the bottom of my knee. I have been chicken to do this because I was told it would really hurt. However, if I don't do this, the surgeon will want to do another replacement and right now I don't think I could handle that physically or emotionally.
They use some acrylic instruments and then scrape the knee from the bottom up. It really does hurt. It breaks up the scar tissue. I am also doing a bunch of different strengthening exercises to make the muscles stronger. I have done three sessions. If we don't think it's doing well enough after my next session Wednesday, then they will stop and I'll have to go back into the surgeon. (That's what they say but I'm not likely to do that for a long time.)
I'm really not making it up or trying to get attention when I tell you that my knee just doesn't feel good - ever. I think this surgery was a bust.
