School has begun

This has been a very long summer for us. I don't mean that in terms of "man, this summer stinks and I can't wait for it to end." What I mean is that our girls got out of school on June 1, we moved out of our West Jordan home on June 2, we moved in to our Fruit Heights home on August 4, and then the girls started school on Tuesday, September 4. They had a full three months of a summer break. Two of those months were spent at Grandma and Grandpa's house (Jen's folks) so all was great for the kids!

On their first day of school they came home and Abby exclaimed, "Mom, Mr. Reeve [her new teacher] is better than summer break." All the kids were very excited about the new school. Abby is in 4th grade; Leah is in 2nd grade (still in the French immersion), and Lauren started kindergarten. Austin takes a nap.

On a sad and embarrassing note, I broke Abby's wrist yesterday. It wasn't malicious, I promise. We went over to the church's grassy field and practiced soccer (Abby is in a league). We'd been there about 5 minutes when I threw a ball back to her and it caught her poorly. It hit her thumb and she immediately writhed in pain. I thought I'd either 1) broken her finger or 2) strained some muscle in her hand or wrist. We went home and put some frozen peas on the wrist -- the only reason I'd have frozen peas in my home is for this reason, trust me. We made her sleep on it and we'd evaluate the wrist in the morning.

Jen took her to the InstaCare this morning and an x-ray revealed a torus fracture in both the radius and ulna bones. So Abby got a hot pink cast and has already had her new friends sign it. I also signed it "SORRY! :-( Dad." Putz of the year, for sure! I did come home with flowers in an attempt to ease the emotional pain.

Poor Abby! I feel so bad for her. I hope she doesn't have to have it on too long. Like father like daughter right? Didn't you break your arm in elementary school? Or was it middle school?

I broke my right wrist when I was 14 or so. I tripped going up to a front door in Walton (I was delivering a paper or something). I wore a cast below the elbow for 4 weeks. -Jess

Poor, poor Abby! She and Ammon make a team. :( Is that the hand she uses to write? Is that going to slow her down in school?
So sorry, kiddo!
I'm glad the kids all like their new school. Whew... Got that under your belt, too. It has been a busy summer for you guys.

Poor girl! I love her pink cast, I had one in kindergarten. However, my dad did not break my wrist. That's a pretty good one that you will never live down!

Poor Abby! I'm so sorry. What a bummer way to start school. But I love the pink! Here's hoping it heals quickly.
