Tallest mountain in Maine. You mission homer! -Jess
Gold star for Jess. Besides being the tallest mountain in Maine, does anybody know what other man made geographical significance this mountain has?
"It is commonly thought that Katahdin is the first place in the United States mainland to receive sunlight in the morning, but this is incorrect. Other mountains, lower in elevation but further to the east or southeast, depending on the season, see the first sunrise of the day." (Thank you Wikipedia). -Jess
Mt. Cadillac in Acadia National Park is actually the first place to see the sun in the US depending on the season. The real significance of Mt. Katahdin is that it is the end of the Appalacian Trail.
Oh, duh. I watched a Netflix documentary on the Appalachian Trail and I remember them talking about that. I'm slow to remember. -Jess
I now I have learned some interesting facts! Thanks for sharing.
