Question for Family Scholars

I started reading the Book of Mormon again a few days ago. I have read it each day since Adam went on his mission. I have read it many times now, almost twice a year. This time I bought a notebook to record some questions that I have and have not answered. I thought someone in the family might help me.

Look at the introduction to the 1st chapter of 1st Nephi. The last phrase says ". . . or in other words, I, Nephi, wrote this record." Did Nephi write this introduction? Was this part of the original edition of the Book of Mormon. The introduction is not in the first person like the last phrase. The Book of Mormon in the first part is in the first person because it is the translation of the small plates and not an abridgement. But what of the introduction?

It is odd the way it is written butI think Nephi wrote the introduction and the last phrase is kind of summation or statement that he did, indeed, write it. Just my thoughts.

Oops -- that was Mom, not Papa Doc.

That would leave me to believe that he wrote all the book headings, right? I read over it last night and remembered last time I read that and thinking it was a little odd. -Jess
