Week of Medicine

I went to the doctor yesterday and he said I was doing great except for the weight I carry around. If you want a fun example of what I do each day, just pick up a bag of cement (90 lbs.) and pack it around with you for a while. I am actually not recommending it, only warning you to all stay fit.

My total cholesterol level was only 154. I'll bet that is as good or better than any of you. The two components, good and bad stuff, were in the good range, too.

Today I went to the dermatologist to have him remove the stitches he put in my arm two weeks ago. I had a squamous cell carcinoma, which is not a nice cancer, on my right arm. We got it early and so the cut was only about two inches long. They had to remove a large chunk of skin around it to make sure they got it all. I have not enjoyed the cut on my arm. I left it unbandaged and covered with ointment most of the time. That meant it was hard to wear a coat, and with the way the weather has been lately, that was not good. I did not want to get ointment on the coat.

The cut is healing well, but getting the stitches out was not really pleasant. Doc used on long stitch tied on both ends of the cut. He had to pull it out from the end. Except it hurt and the string actually broke. Then he had to dig it out and pull it some more. He was kind enough to put some lidocaine on the cut to make it better, but the shots of deadener hurt almost as bad. Oh, well, it is over now.

I was called by a pulmonologist from Primary's this week telling me that the trach was not to be removed from Ammon because he needed the ventilator. It only works on a trach. There is a long story about this, and I will not bore you, but both Chris and I think the man who called is nuts. We have called and asked for the ENT who is scheduled to do the surgery on the eighth of this month to call me, but he has not. It could be a sticky situation. Hold on to your horses.

So much for the medical week. I am really tired of it.

I hope the cancer is gone and won't come back. I also hope that you can win the fight with the doctors. Good luck.
