Prom Night

Prom was last night at Salem Hills High School. Kaitlin was asked to go by a very good friend, Austin Leavitt. She decided that she wanted to go to an antique store and look for a vintage dress but she was always so busy after school that she wasn't going to be able to find the time. I thought about my mother's party dresses that I have and we drug them out and she tried them on. She particularly loved one, but it was too big through the shoulders and would have taken a professional tailor to fix it. And then she said, 'Mom! You have a formal! Can I look at it?" I made sure she knew that I wasn't vintage - yet - but we pulled the formal out and it fit her. The zipper was broken and so I knew I would need to put in a new zipper. The fabric was beginning to rot and I was worried that it would never hold up through a dry cleaning session to get the smell of cedar out of the dress. It worked! Here's Kaitlin in my vintage dress.
Gillian did her hair and it was gorgeous! She also did Kaitlin's make-up and she looked beautiful as you can see here.

The dress was a little bit long but I didn't have time to re-hem it. Kaitlin found this little cardigan sweater to go over the top and it looked very nice with the dress.

We were all in the living room playing a game with Ammon when Austin showed up. When I asked them if we could take a picture together, Ammon sighed and said, "Oh, it's love at first sight!" I thought we were all going to die of laughter.
Austin is the nephew of the Rosenbaums in our ward. We have known Austin's family since Kaitlin was in 8th grade. They have been in choirs together and have been good friends for a long time. She said she had a wonderful time with all her good friends. They ate at Carrabbas, an Italian place near the mall in Orem. As they were getting ready to pay the bill, a waitress came up and said that a couple at another table had paid for all of them because they were so impressed with them and thought they looked so cute together. Can you believe that?! It was a great night for our beautiful Katy.
Ok, so about the dress - Jason should recognize it first since he wore it to a ward Halloween party dressed as a girl. (He was 16 and if he tries to deny it, just ask Chelsey because she remembers how beautiful he looked.) Then Chelsey wore it for something but she doesn't remember why. Gillian took it to choir to wear it for a particular song but that's when the zipper broke. I'll bet my mom would be pleased if she knew how many of her grandkids wore this dress that she made. So everybody, I have a vintage dress if anyone wants to borrow it. :)

Here I am wearing it on the day of Benjamin Homecoming, since I was the queen and had to perform that day.

Here I am the night I was chosen as the Benjamin Homecoming Queen with Maureen Beckstrom (left) and Terry Jane Thornton (right) as attendants. (In case you think this is a big deal, remember how big Benjamin is - and we were the only three girls that tried out. So no, it wasn't a big deal no matter what Jim tries to say.) I was skinny then. Oh my, for those old vintage days once again!!

Katy,

What a nice looking girl that is in the picture there! Glad you got to wear the dress. You look beautiful. And-- SUCH A CUTE DATE! What do you mean you're just "friends"? I think he's really cute! He looks like he enjoys your company too. ;) That's also nice to hear someone else paid for your dinner Glad you were all behaving in a way to impress us old folks. It's refreshing to have well mannered teenagers anymore. It's hard to come by sometimes.

And mom,
You're such a hottie! I always liked that dress and we're all glad we could use it for something or another (even if it was to dress in drag, Jason...). Thanks for posting these great photos!

Kaitlin, you look great. Glad you had a good time on your date and that the kiss was fantastic!

I also found it funny (downright amusing, actually!) that the girls now are more modest than they were in Mom's day. Mom, I couldn't resist ribbing you for that...

Beeeutiful! I think you look just like mom did but with modern hair and blonde hair. I agree with Chelsey, your date is super cute. And mom, I love the pictures of you.

You know, I have a pretty dang good memory but I do not remember dressing in drag to any halloween party after the age of 11 when Sis. Gold mistaked me for a girl named Lisa in our ward (Lincoln 2nd). I think you are all making this up and refuse to believe any of you without proof. Where are the pictures???

In any event, you look very nice Katy. I hope you had a great time.

Yes,your date is way cute. Katy, you looked beautiful. Gilly did a great job on your hair too. I have also always loved that dress but I've been the only one out af all the girls that could never in any stage of her life, ever fit into it. You looked wonderful and I'm glad you had a great time.

Mom, you are still a hottie patottie in my book. I've got one smokin' hot momma.

Beautiful girl...beautiful mom! Who knew you were the queen of Benjamin! I should have realized you were royalty, Chris. You were, and are gorgeous.

Aunt chris, you look positively stunning in that dress. I've decided that I come from a long line of good looking Teichert women. And that dress is timeless. Grandma did such a good job sewing it together. My dad never mentioned that you were homecoming queen. In fact he hardly ever mentions anything bout his past. I bet you could tell me a story or two.
