Don't get Taken with Taken
Brent and I thought we'd catch the new movie Taken this last weekend. We'd seen a few trailers that made it look a lot like the Bourne Identity movies. In fact, they even said if you liked those movies, you'd like this one. WRONG. We stayed for about 1/2 of the movie and left. It's supposed to be about a father tracking down his kidnapped daughter. He's (Liam Nieson) an ex-spy and has all these abilities to find her. But here's what we didn't know. His daughter is kidnapped to be sold into the sex trade. There went the movie. It was incredibly violent (not sure how it made the pg13 rating) and far too graphic for us. The sex trade is a real thing in this messed up world, but I didn't need to see it. We got up and left. On Sunday, my visiting teacher said she was at the same movie and asked if we liked it. Her husband was our last bishop. I told her it made us both really uncomfortable so we left. Her response? "Oh, that's too bad. I thought the previews were worse". And yes, the previews were bad. Why do we have to see previews that ought to be rated R? I guess we should've done more homework on this movie before we spent the $20. So there you have it. Don't get taken.

Thanks for the advice. I wanted to go see that movie but I think I will pass.
It wasn't any more violent than any of the Bournes. The reason it was different was cause Liam was playing a sort of Vigilanty type agent. It was definatey darker than the Bournes though.
I think the rating system is super messed up. Most PG13's should be an R rating and there are many PG movies that should be PG13, take for instance Marley and Me. Great movie, but had we known that Jennifer Anniston shows side boob in the sceene by the pool then we wouldn't have had our children go to it. There is a website out there that explains everything a movie has in it down to the number of swear words that will be spoken. I guess I'll have to check that out before taking my children to another movie ever.
Here are a couple websites I found that talks about everything in the movie.

In the Bourne movies, a lot of his violence can be seen as self defense. They all wanted him dead. In Taken, the dark attitudes is certainly what makes the violence seem so much worse. It's the feeling evoked behind this movie's violence that is scary. Vigilanty or not ~it's dark and not as much of a thriller type movie the execs are trying to market it as.
Thanks for the websites Michelle. I'll be sure to look those up!
I say thanks for the websites, too, Michelle. I will be sure and look those up before taking Ammon to any movie. I'm glad you have given us a heads up about the movie, Chelsey. I couldn't stand the violence in the Bourne movies - especially the last one because the fight scenes lasted so long and were so brutal. Why do guys think violence is ok? Don't most guys like violent movies?
