Sarah Palin Speech
So, how many of you watched the speech at the RNC last night? I wasn't as impressed with Sarah Palin as some republicans, and I'm interested to hear what you all think. I'm so tired of the mud slinging and sarcasm from both camps. I don't think she rose above that last night either. Sure, she's got a reason for being overly defensive with the way she's being scrutinized lately, but there's got to be a better way to do politics than that. What about health care, education, social security, Afghanistan, etc. There are too many important issues at stake than they have time for! I am not a believer that women can have it all, and I have a hard time with women who think they can have it all and actually believe they're doing a good job at it all. That doesn't mean that I think women don't deserve to have the rights to do it all, it just means I think important things suffer when we try to do it all. Something's gotta give. I know some feminists hate Palin, as do many others. I did like some things she talked about, but what do you all think? I guess we'll have to wait to see what McCain says tonight.

I don't know what I think about her yet. Mike says she has done some impressive things and he likes her politically. I agree that you can have everything but if you plan on having everything you better know that something is going to suffer. There are a lot of stay at home moms that hate her because they think that she is bad for working. But here's the deal for me. If you are going to vote for someone because of their private choices, then you have to be fair and view everyone that way. If that is how you are voting then Obama is probably the better choice because he appears to be a loving father that hasn't cheated and has two beautiful daughters. But if you are going to vote by the things they believe politically then he probably isn't the right choice (for me anyway). I'd rather vote for someone that is a working mother then someone that believes in abortion.
She actually gave a better speech than I thought she would. She seemed very comfortable and had fun with the crowd. I liked her hockey mom and pit bull joke. I don't know a lot about her but what I have read/heard certainly doesn't make her any better than anyone else. The powers that be would like us to think that she will fight pork barrel spending but I think she plays the game just like everybody else. Although she nixed the "bridge to nowhere" (a bridge that would connect the mainland to the small city of Ketchikan), she kept the money that congress had allocated for the project and then continued to spend another $38 million (I think that was the number) on an approach road to the bridge. How is that cutting pork barrel spending? If she was truly concerned about extra money being spent for silly projects, she should have returned the money to the federal government and stopped construction on the approach road.
I do like the fact that she is pro-life and that her family is not perfect. It makes her seem more like the rest of us.
Obama is a socialist! I am sick of hearing what our country must do for us; what ever happened to the saying what can we do for our country! Lets for for us the middle class citizens. Thats why i won't vote for obama

I was interested in Jason's comments - I don't know enough about what Palin actually has done as governor than what she has said in her talks -- however, I was really impressed with several things. I would vote for this woman over someone like Hillary a hundred times over. I actually think Palin crosses a lot more borders with women than Hillary ever would. The only ones that could possibly hate her are those who believe in abortion. Otherwise, how could a feminist dislike her?
I was completely impressed and that caused me to be a little (not much but a little) more impressed with McCain. I am impressed that he would chose someone like her even if it was just to pull the rug out from under the Democrats, which I think he did at least momentarily.
I'm still so uncertain and uneasy about some things about McCain that I'm not sure I will vote at all - but if I do it would only be because of two reasons: it's a vote against Obama and it's a vote for Palin.

Hey Dave, you realize that the phrase you quoted, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," was coined by a man at least as socialist if not more than Obama?
Even so, the phrase still rings true.
