It is the Iowa River. We are actually quite lucky here in Iowa City. The Cedar River that runs through Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and Cedar Rapids is flooding much worse. There have been evacuations in all three cities as levees have given way and businesses have been flooded out. So far no one has lost their life though.
We did get a thunderstorm this morning that is petering out as I write but more is expected this afternoon. We are forecast to receive around 3 inches of rain today. Still, we are fortunate compared to so many people in WI and IN that have lost their homes and businesses. I hope the rest of you stay dry.
This is such a tragedy for so many people. I found myself wondering what I would pack up in a hurry - what things mean enough to me to save if I had to evacuate. I'm glad you are safe. Yesterday we had a storm system move through. It was very cold. We didn't receive any rain in Utah County, but they did get rain up north and there was snow at Parley's Canyon. Cokeville area got about 2" of snow. The weatherman said that as the system heads east, directed across Iowa and other upper Midwest states to expect 6-9" of rain over the next few days. While it was a relatively dry storm for us, combined with the Gulf stream, it may dump on you again. Stay safe. Mom

I think the saddest pictures are the ones of people carrying furniture out of their flooded homes.

Wow! That is a freakin' ton of water. I think Tulsa is flooded too but not like you guys!
What is the name of the river feeding the Coralville Reservoir? I can't seem to find it on Google Maps.
It looked like a line of thunderstorms was coming your way last night when I watched the news. Hope this didn't "break the bank" so to say. -Jess
