Last night we saw something none of us could believe! Uncle Jack & Aunt Nelva celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Spring Lake picnic pavilion. Jim and I were invited and since we are the only sibling of Jack's that still has kids living at home, the kids were also invited. They invited Lindsey and her family as well since they were staying with us. Just as we were getting ready to eat (after the announcement that Jack's kids bought their parents a trip to Hawaii in October!), Hans quietly began to talk to Lindsey about the mountain across town -- that would be the one between Elk Ridge and Payson, but not the "P" mountain -- the larger one just north of Dry Mt. He was asking her how high she thought it was. We guessed somewhere between seven and eight thousand feet. He made her a bet that he could run to the top of it in one hour. She took on the bet and he took off, much to the shock of everybody there. He was only talking to her, he wasn't making any kind of announcement. He told her to watch his yellow shirt. We never did see him climb up the mountain but about 45 mintues after he left, we all exclaimed at once, "Oh my gosh! There he is coming down!" We could see a tiny yellow speck as he was working his way down the mountain. He made it all the way to the top and back down, running wherever possible. He didn't make it in an hour but he did make it in an hour and a half. It was totally amazing to watch this event.
Jason, I suggested that once Hans gets back from Iraq and transferred to the US that he take up triathlon events like you are doing. And to the rest of you guys, it's just good that you didn't try to take him on running up to the Y. He would have run circles around all of you!
I truly couldn't believe me eyes because I have never, in my life, seen anybody run that far and that high in such a short time. He said his legs didn't hurt at all and the altitude didn't seem to bother him. Kudos to him!!
They have now gone back home. It was a good visit -- Lindsey wished that she could have spent more time with all of you but it was hard to divide their time up equally. She did the best she could. I think she will come back for the holiday season but I guess we'll have to see how she feels and whether she it up to flying back out here alone with Eva.
We wish the best of luck to Hans and will keep him in our prayers. If we all unite our voices in prayer for him while he is gone, I'm sure that protection will follow him.

We were really pleased to see Lindsey, Hans, Eva, and Ralph while they were out here. We were busy enough that coming down to Elk Ridge was very difficult for us during the last few weeks, but they made the effort to come up a few times and we got to spend some time with them. I would be fun if they lived closer, but I guess most the siblings live far away now.
Hope they have a safe trip back!

Ok - I made an English boo-boo on this post. Seeing Jack & Nelva making it to 50 years of marriage wasn't the thing I never thought I would see -- I didn't make myself clear here. Watching Hans run up the mountain was the feat, not the longevity of the marriage. I didn't even catch that mistake until someone pointed it out, laughing about it. I laughed, too, because it was such a dumb mistake. Just to clear things up a bit!
Hope you all had a great weekend. The girls, Ammon and I went up to SLC last night to visit with Aunt Lynn, Shawn & her family and Renee and her family. Ryan will be coming in tonight. The group gathers in preparation for the family reunion. We are already having our own reunion of sorts. It was wonderful to visit with these guys! Their kids are delightful. I didn't realize how long it has been since Gillian and Kaitlin had seen Allen's girls. Too long, that's for sure.
