Our 4th of July started out being somewhat of a bummer but ended up being kind of fun. Oklahoma City banned fireworks in the city and since we are kind of considered part of Oklahoma City, Midwest City banned them too. They did have fireworks on base on the 2nd but we couldn't see them through the trees in our backyard. I was sure we wouldn't have any fun at all and was bummed about it. On Monday we gathered all our change ($22) and went to a store called A to Z. It is pretty much like a run down Big Lots. Anyway, we each took $5 and Will got $1.50 and we bought each other presents. Mike got Allen Wrenches and I got some cheesy sign to go in our room. Will chose an Elephant that goes with his safari bedroom decorations. Then later we took the rest of the money and got a giant banana split. For the 4th we really didn't do alot. We made a hat for Will and bought a croquet set (but then it rained so we didn't play) and let Will play in the rain. Later we had some friends come over and we had dinner and played Mad Gab. Then we broke the law and set off little fireworks in our backyard and had sparklers. The pictures are of Will with his tall, tall hat, and trying to throw one of those little fireworks that you throw on the ground. He thought those were pretty cool.

Great hat Will! All he needs is to point at the camera and say, "Uncle Sam wants you"!
Glad you had a good 4th. We had a neighborhood get together with food and fireworks. It rained right up until we started eating. We weren't sure about the fireworks, but it dried up and turned out well since it cooled off a bit. The kids had a blast! It's a little noisy in our part of town since the latinos like the illegal fireworks. They make for a great show, but loud.
Hey, snaps are pretty fun, so I can understand Will's excitement over them. Glad Will got to have some fun (nice hat!).
We got rain, too, so it looks like we were in the same boat. After spending all day at Mom and Dad's, Jen's folks came over to our house last night to light their fireworks in our driveway. That's the way to do it...stay at home, put Leah to bed, have some ice cream, and help light fireworks purchased by someone else.
