Vacation Log #1

We're currently on vacation in Oceanside, CA, with Jen's parents, Jen's sister Katie, Jen's grandma, uncle (Marty), aunt, and their kids. Jen's grandma secured some condos in Oceanside at a place called North Coast Village. We came here two years ago and actually stayed in the same exact condo. Last time, we were all stuffed in to a 3-bedroom condo and it got a little cramped. This time, Jen's grandma rented three condos...the same 3-bedroom, a one-bedroom, and a studio. We're in the 3-bedroom with Jen's folks. This year we have lots of room for many less people than last time.

We arrived in Oceanside around 3pm yesterday and unloaded our van (boy, having the van for this drive was much better than the Diamante like last time...gas mileage wasn't much different and we had tons more room). We discovered that while Abby was a pill as a baby, she was fantastic on long drives. Leah, while an excellent baby, is a pill on long drives. Leah refused to take any naps in the van and instead let us hear about her displeasure being in her car seat for hours on end. We finally got Leah to take a nap at the condo and then had to wait the 2.5 hours for her to sleep before we could head to the beach.

The beach was very nice and actually much more crowded than when we came last time (Sept. 2004). The water felt initially a little chilly, but was great, especially with a wet suit. Mark and I spent a few hours boogie-boarding (Jason, I'm sure I spelled that wrong). The waves were fairly large and we had a lot of fun ridin' them.

We're going to attend an Oceanside ward this morning and relax most of the day. I wish we could do this as a Clark family vacation as well. It would be lots of fun to be here with Lance and Adam and Gillian and .... I guess we've got to wait for one of us to get rich, eh.

Late again, but I wanted to tell you I have been to Oceanside. I took a dead person there from Sacramento. It was a long trip, all night from Sacramento. I was going through LA on 405 at about six thirty in the morning. I made it through fine, but the folks coming from the south by that time were in a world of hurt.

When I came back through LA at about eleven in the daytime I took I-5 through Anaheim. It was a mess. Took me hours to get to San Fernando Valley. I never wanted to go there again. I never have. Don't care either.

Oceanside is a very nice place, however. For that matter, so is San Diego. One of my old best friends, Dee Thomsen, lives there. He is disabled worse than am, though. But he is a wonderful guy. Wish I would have told you earlier.

Love, Dad
