Freedom Festival

Today Kaitlin and I took Ammon to see the parade in Provo. I believe it's one of the biggest in the nation on the 4th of July. Since the 4th fell on Sunday, they moved the parade to Monday. Ammon wanted to go so we decided to go since Gillian was able to secure us a spot in front of her salon.

Gillian and Kevin slept out on the street to help save spots. It was a perfect place to see the parade. What was so surprising is that it was 57 degrees when we got there. People were wrapped up in blankets and jackets. I don't ever recall such a cool 4th of July. It was lovely!

The parade is large and fun. Some of the cutest little kids in world were lining the streets waving flags. I believe that Provo is one of the most patriotic cities in the world. It was very touching to stand and applaud the families of those servicemen that had died in the past few months in Afghanistan. I was very moved by the respect that was shown to them by the huge audience lined along the street for miles.

Kevin was in the parade. He was part of a group that held the ropes attached to a huge blow-up army man. Kevin looked pretty cute. :)

Ammon's favorite group was from BYU. He waved and shouted (well, you can't hear his shouts) and he got really excited as the cheerleaders came up, Cosmo waved and some of the football team drove by. Ammon owns BYU!

The loudest cheers came for BYU and the Provo Utah Missionaries (about 100 of them).
I truly enjoyed myself at the parade. The last time I attended this one was when I was pregnant with Ammon and I had to hold Kaitlin for the whole thing because she couldn't see - it was pretty miserable.

It was great to have the day off. Back to work tomorrow in time to anxiously wait for the next 3-day weekend in a couple of weeks.

What a perfect morning for a parade! I loved having such a cool Fourth of July weekend. It made it so much more fun! I wish we'd have been at the parade with you. My kids haven't been to many parades and when we have gone we've been burning up! -Jen

Sounds like a fun parade. I miss going to parades. Midwest City had one once but other than that, I haven't been to a parade since I lived in Provo. We went swimming for Mike's day off and the boys loved that.
