Kitchen Queen

Anybody else notice how cool Mike and Adrianne are when it comes to finding new and yummy recipes? I admire how frequently they try new foods. I'm such a weany when it comes to stuff like that. I hardly ever cook these days now that Brent's in a different state. I don't like cooking enough to make a whole meal for me (and 2 of the 3 kids if I'm lucky). They're just as happy to eat hot dogs and mac and cheese. Why on earth would I bother cooking something "real" then? Cereal works for me.

I was checking out the Burnt Toast blog and looking through all the cool recipes and thinking I should tip my hat to all you cooks out there like our Richards family. Kudos to you all for finding such yummy things to eat! I'm not that creative in the kitchen and wish I could find a great cooking class that would simply teach the basics of spices. I want to learn how to use different spices and what works well together. And I don't like "wasting" my money on food to cook just to have it turn out awful. I guess that's just the chance I have to take!

Mike's family always tried new things and when we got married I had never used fresh garlic or knew what cummin was. Mike encouraged me to try new stuff and I have found that I really enjoy cooking. I would never claim to be a good cook though. Maybe some day...

My friend Marcy took a cooking class at a grocery store in Utah. I think it was Macey's. Anyway, they offered classes once a week. Maybe you could check into that at a grocery store near you.

Chelsey, you are a very good cook. I always love eating at your house. That sausage stuffing...yum! You should post that recipe on the blog.

I am just like Chelsey - I hesitate to try a lot of new things because if I don't like it or it doesn't turn out well, then I feel like I've wasted food and money that I didn't have to waste. While I was cooking for the huge crew, it was usually about qty, never quality - and it had to be cheap. Potatoes, rice, breads and hamburger were pretty cheap so that's usually what we had in one form or another.
I love to eat at my sister's house. She is a fabulous cook and I never miss meat when I eat her food. But she buys very expensive, good quality food that I can't afford. My pallet would like nicer food than I have ever made - but life is what it is.
I'm glad that all of you have branched out with your tastes. (If I could just convince you that tomatoes are really good.)
Amy and Adam are great cooks, too. I like to eat at their place. They try all kinds of different things and I'm totally impressed.
Has anybody ever tasted Jen's desserts? Man, they are good. She makes incredible sweet breads, cakes and cookies. Yum.
You are all better cooks than I've ever been. Oh yeah, I can't forget that Gillian makes one mean pot roast. Chelsey, every time you have made something for the family, it has been super good. It's harder to be enthused if your kids don't like to try new things.
Yeah for all of you and your efforts at cooking.
