One thing I'm digging and one thing I'm not

I'm digging the new series on TV called Jamie Olivers Food Revolution. I just watched it on Hulu today while I folded laundry. I don't know exactly why, but I'm so excited about this new series. I read a few books maybe two years ago on childhood obesity and was so interested in them. I really believe in being healthy. I really believe in being fit. I really believe in building a foundation of knowledge for a healthier body in my children from a very young age.

This has been on my mind lately because I still have a few pounds to lose and it is so hard. A lot of you understand how hard it is and if you don't you might some day (hopefully not). I want to put healthy things in my mouth and put less food in my mouth. I don't always make that choice. I try really hard when I talk about food with the boys to tell them I'm losing weight because I want to be healthy, not because I think I'm fat. It used to be about fat but it isn't anymore.

I really hope one day I can conquer this challenge. It really is a conscious thought process each day that requires my self control and requires me to try and educate myself and refine my food palate. I know that even if I am skinny it will always be a struggle for me.

Anyway, if you haven't seen the show yet, go watch it.

Also, what I'm not digging is foul language. I know this girl and when I first met her she seemed so nice and wholesome. I became friends with her on facebook and the more I see her status the more my impression of her changes. There is no need to use words like she uses. She doesn't swear but she uses crass words like suck and piss. I'm embarrassed even to type them....They are just filthy words and it makes her seem so less clean of a person. I know that's judgmental but anyway, that's what's on my mind.

I am excited about the show too! We watched the first episode in my program planning class today and evaluated various aspects of it. It was a lot of fun.

Nancy and I have been really watching our diets for a few days now (don't laugh), and have goals in mind. It has been a very challenging last few days.

I dont like the word piss. I do say suck though. I hated when dad would get mad at us saying suck, but they he would say "go suck eggs". HATED that. I think go suck eggs is worse.

I don't like the two words you in your last paragraph either. Particularly the "S" one. It was not a word that was used much when I was in high school or even college but it seems to have made a comeback in the last 5 or so years. My boys know I don't like it and several years ago Caleb substituted vacuums for sucks.

Profane words just make an individual appear stupid. I love Presidents Kimball's quote on the issue. He said, "Profanity is the attempt of a simple mind to express itself forcefully." You wouldn't believe the impact that quote has had on my friends and co-workers.

I know they aren't swear words or anything, I just think they sound like such trashy words. I like the quote Jason--that's how I feel when I hear someone talk like that--that they aren't as intelligent as they are.

Lance, good for you and Nancy! It is such a hard thing so I hope you have great success.

Lindsey and Hans, Your messages have been found to be category 2 on the purity scale: moderately crass with potential subliminal criminal content, there fore they have been purged from the system. Failure to comply with purity standards will result in accumulation of points resulting in an increase on your profanity insurance, with further increase in deductibles for liability caused by shame to family members.

Sincerely,

Sons for Universal Chastity Kindness & Piety In a Superior Society aka S.U.C.K.P.I.S.S.

Couple thoughts - I watched about 30 minutes maybe of that show and I actually didn't like it so much. BUT i am all about trying to be healthy. It's a struggle for me everyday to make good food choices. If it were up to me I'd eat pbjs and desserts for every meal. 1/2 of me is very health conscious and the other half is not. But I am working on it and hopefully getting better! I'm glad you're trying to be healthy. I really believe that we can be happier and have more energy if we put better things into our bodies - and that's why I want so badly to be better at it!
I'm like you - I'm super sensitive to language, which is kind of funny because there was a period of time in my former life when I actually had a potty mouth. Now I don't even like the word cr** I don't even want to say it! I know that's extreme because pretty much everyone says it, but it bothers me. And I don't like bu**, either - I make my kids say bum or bottom. Oh - and I don't like fa** - we say toot-toot in our house. I know I'm extreme and ridiculous, but for some reason all of those words seem harsh to me. I'm kind of embarrassed to even say this on here because everyone will probably roll their eyes, but that is how I feel.
So there you have it.

Hans, you are silly.

Amy, I am rolling my eyes.

Jason, I like the quote you used.

Amy, I agree with you. Unfortunately, Jake has had quite the potty mouth facination lately. It's driving me insane. He thinks bodily functions are hilarious. Oh boy.

Woah, I haven't checked this post for a few days and apparently there has been a lot of activity.

I should be more careful about leaving judgmental comments in the future.

Amy, Mom hated the word fart so she made us all say "Bun-clap" which really is worse in my opinion.

It's cool Adrienne just be yourself and let the chips fall where they may. Besides, the readers of this blog are all family, so a little teasing hopefully isn't hurtful. The only reason I can actually be myself on here is I like and trust everyone that reads this. So expect more sarcasm from me, Sister.

I use the word "suck" now, but in the term "aw man, that sucks." I would never tell someone to "go suck it." That's a little too far over the line for me.

I never use the word "piss." I hate it and use "ticked off" instead. However, I heard someone in gospel doctrine last week use the phrase "piss off" in reference to the devil or something. I'm sure the guy didn't mean to say it in church, but that's what you get when the phrase is part of your vernacular. It just comes out!

I haven't sworn since seventh grade when I was a drunken sailor. Dang West Central...

Well, I know I'm judgmental and it is something I am actually much better at. I wasn't trying to be self-righteous or rude to anyone (and, I didn't know anyone in the family used those words anyway so it wasn't directed to anyone in the family). I hope I didn't offend anyone.

Hans, I wish you would comment more often, and I can appreciate sarcasm.

So does this count as having started a blog-drama? cause if so, I think I should be upgraded from inlaw to full-fledged member...

Unfortunately then none of you could stand to be around our boys. They say many things are are wrong and inappropriate all the time. I'm sick of it. I really don't know what to do to get them to stop saying all those things you've all mentioned above, plus the daily calling each other names like Fa* and Reta****.

Grounding doesn't work, having them pay me per word doesn't work and taking things away doesn't work. What now?

In terms of the food thing, and being fat, I hope the mortition (sp) can do liposuction to make me look a little better in the coffin.

I tell Chris that she will love me in the ressurection.
