One calling is not really more important than another if all are doing their job. Sometimes encouragement is needed from leaders to get everyone pulling their load. That, perhaps, is the real reason why leaders are so important. But in the boys view in Jess' ward, the scoutmaster was the most important calling in the ward. They loved him and he loved them, and still will.
I am very happy that all of my sons and daughters and their spouses are people of service and worthiness, able to do what the Lord wants them to do. Jess is today's good example of that, and for him I am grateful. It is really part of an overwhelming blessing to the life of Chris and me to have such a family!
One more thing: While in the ward we were able to see Jenny Scott (Potter). She is the daughter of the former BYU head basketball coach, Glen Potter. I was her bishop when she was a young woman in Nebraska. Her father was there teaching and getting a PHD. What a delightful woman she is, and how respectful and wonderful she was to us. It was great to see her after all these years.

I really appreciate Dad (and Jen's dad) for their willingness to participate in my ordination to the old man's club and setting apart to the "brick" part of the bishopric. I am lucky to have two fathers who are high priests and worthy to participate in these activities.
For some weird reason, both Jen and I have this idea that this calling will be a break considering the time I spent with the Scouts. That's probably wishful thinking, but we'll think it nonetheless. -Jess
Welcome to the High Priest "socials". There's a reason they're called socials and not activities...
And I'm sure those boys will miss you as their scoutmaster. That's a really difficult and time consuming calling. A good scoutmaster is worth his weight in gold. At least you'll still be associating with them though. You've given them a good example and parents of boys that age sure appreciate that!!
that was Chels, not Sarah.
Though she likes to text with you Jess. :) Especially when you think it's me and not her!
I think it will probably be a break from your last calling too. Congratulations on the calling. You will be really great in that calling.
Well there goes you weekend trip up to visit us! Seth is the youngest high priest in our ward, and I'm willing to bet Jess is in his too. I want to wish Jen the best of luck on getting all 4 kids ready for church on her own, that's her new calling!
I'm not sure whether to console you or congratulate you. Perhaps I should just say good luck.
Our YM president said something in Ward Council yesterday that I felt was really important. He said that the most vulnerable group of individuals in the ward is the YM and that no matter how strong they may seem or their families may seem, they need extra attention. I am glad that you are continuing to be in a position that will allow you to influence the YM of your ward. Once again, good luck.
