This morning I was called by my sister, Carol Francis. She is the sister that lives in Springville. She was crying sofly, and I could tell something was troubleing her. She told me that her husband, Dean Samuel Francis had died during the night.
Dean was almost eighty-eight years old, with a birthday coming up soon. I was too young to remember their wedding, but I do remember this picture in our house. I got a copy of it a few years ago from one of their kids.
Dean was a great man! He could do almost anything. He once made a TV. That was back when he was in college. He was a chemist, and worked for Geneva Steel doing analasis. He had a minor in agronomy, and once went back to Canada for a few years to farm. He could wire things, build things, fix anything, and he was always happy whenever I saw him. Whenever my mom needed something fixed she would not ask Dad to do it, she would get Dean and it would be done.
One of his grandsons lives in Jason's ward in Iowa City where he is doing an internship for his medical degree.
Dean joins his daughter, Linda, in the spirit world today. It will be a joyous reunion. When a man of his calibar dies, it is not really sad. Oh, we'll miss him, and we cannot any longer talk to him; but he was a very righteous man who has an endless future that will be full of celestial accomplishments. I am very glad to have know him for so many years.
He had a little trouble with a stroke a few weeks ago, and I went over to see him. Ann, his daughter was there, too, and we all had a great converstion. I am so glad that I went! Carol, my sister, was making bread. Sne is no spring chicken herself. But she was doing what she has done so well for so many years, caring for her family. They will now increase their love for her as she goes without her loving companion for a while.
God bless them all!

This is a very nice post, Jim. I can attest to the fact that Dean was an incredibly talented, kind man. My love and good wishes goes out to Carol and her family.
I didn't know Dean very well but every interaction I ever had with him was very positive. He really cared about people.
Dean was a neat person. I didn't know him too well myself, but he always treated me with kindness. I'm fact, we still have the little quilt he made for us as a wedding gift. I hope Carol will have the strength she needs to get through this tough time.
sad. I want to go to the funeral, when is it?
I also didn't know him well but he was a very nice every time I talked to him.
