Hans left for the rest of the month. He's off playing GI Joe. I put the kids to bed at their usual time of 8pm. By 8:20 I was almost...not quite, but almost wishing they were still up to play with me. I'm bored. With Hans being gone, the evenings are quiet. Not that he makes a lot of noise when he's home, but he just seems to fill an empty space that I just can't fill. He's been home from his last deployment for a little over two years now. I've gotten used to having him around. I've realized how much I take advantage of him. He takes the trash out (which in Germany is quite the task because you have to recycle everything!), empties the dishwasher, sweeps the floor, and wrestles with the kids all without being asked. Of course he does more than that too, those are just some of the examples. Now, for the next couple of weeks, I have to do it. It sure does make me appreciate the little things I totally take advantage of when he's around.
I guess in the military you can't get too comfortable with the idea of having your husband stick around for too long. It's too good to be true right? However, I do believe the old saying is true: Absence makes the heart grow fonder. So Hans, if you get to a computer and read this...I love you and am very grateful for all you do, including filling in those empty, lonely nights.

Sad! I am glad he's only gone for the rest of the month and not a year, but that still sounds like a long time! I'd love to keep you company, but can't be there 'til October! -Jen
I'm sad he had to leave, too. This might be a good time for you to rest, relax and re-group after the hard fall and winter you've had with so many responsibilities.
Enjoy the kids and be safe!
I'm sorry to hear you are sad and lonely. If only I lived closer, we'd have fun. Maybe a large craft project to keep you busy might work.
When Jason and I were first married and he went to school and worked at the Diary and I felt that I never saw him (nothing like your situation) but anyway when he was gone a lot I cross-stitched and made two very large gorgeous pictures and then had them professionally framed. To this day I look at them and remember all those hours I spent doing them, it helped the time go fast.
Or maybe taking a class online might help.
I hope the time passes quickly for you.
I also hope the time passes for you quickly. I've been thinking about you a lot lately. I will shoot you an email soon.
