It's been an interesting 24 hrs. First, I had a gift card stolen from me by the cashier at Wal Mart. I remembered she hadn't handed it to me about 5 min after I left the store, so I immediately pulled over in a parking lot and checked all my bags to see if she put it in there. Nope. No where. I knew I didn't have it in the first place, so I immediately called the store and asked them to check with the cashier if she still had it. They came back and said it wasn't there and she didn't know where it was. I was told to call back. Long story short, (and 4 hrs later...) I walk into Wal Mart customer service, hand them my recipet and ask them to look again. They knew exactly which register I was at and what time I was there. When the search came back empty, I asked security to look at the tapes of the register during the time I was there. Sure enough, the manager came back saying, "we can see she certainly didn't give you the card in the first place". She wasn't on the clock during the time I was there talking to security, and I'm pretty sure she won't be anytime soon. She pocketed the gift card. Thankfully, Wal Mart was really good about replacing the card for me and very apologetic. If they'd have given me any trouble at all I never would've been back in there.
Then there were parent teacher conferences. Always the same stuff. What do they want me to do?? I can't go to class with him and make sure his completed homework actually makes it back into the teacher. Follow through has always been an issue. We're working on it, and hopefully the teachers will be more helpful now that we've met all together as a team.
A half hr after we got home, the bishop called and asked if we could help out with a gal that had just come into town and didn't have a suitable place to stay. She's been staying at the bishop's home for a few days, and I think they needed a break. She's from Lima, Peru. Lisette is here on a work program that is through her university in Lima. She'll be here for 3 months. I don't think we're supposed to have her that long though, since she's got a hotel room. The manager at the hotel wanted her to stay in a room with some strange man also in the program. We're working on getting that changed. I'd NEVER let my daughter stay in a strange country with a strange man in the same room. What was that manager thinking?? He must not have a daughter. Anyway, I'm finding I wish I'd paid more attention in spanish class all those years ago. Thankfully, more of my spanish is coming back as we try to communicate. So far, so good. She's got cousins in NYC that got her in touch with the bishop here so we could help her out. She's LDS and it's been interesting to talk to her about the differences of our country and cultures. I think she's missing her chicken, rice and beans though!

Wow - you had an interesting day yesterday. I didn't know you had a visitor. I'm glad you can house this young woman for a time.
You have had a hard week! I'm glad you are able to take her though. I would not want my daughter rooming with some man either!
I'm glad you got your gift card back. It's unfortunate that there are mean and selfish people in this world that are only looking out for themselves.
Best of luck with your home visitor. I hope you are able to understand her soon so you can communicate better.
I'm a little worried she won't get things worked out with the program sponsors. She doesn't have transportation to and from work (3-11pm) and they expect her to walk the 2 miles back to the hotel. The guy is still in her room, and even though I met him today and there's another girl in there now too, I'm still not comfortable leaving her there. She's at work now, and I hope something gets worked out. Her program is for 3 months. I don't know if I can pick up and drop her off every day at 3 then again at 11. Thank heavens for google translator. We can at least type conversations back and forth and somewhat understand what we're talking about. I don't think this girl had any idea what she was getting herself into.
And the whole gift card thing was just ridiculous! Sometimes people just have to learn to ask for help if they need it. I could've helped her out with something if I'd known she really needed it. Now she won't even be able to get hired anywhere else because she stole from someone. Really sad and frustrating.
