Fires in Israel

To take your mind off infections, here's something else. Israel has had some serious (for them) wildfires. While their fires are pretty small -- 8,600 acres -- they are substantial for the area and given the size of the country. As a reference, a fire in central Utah burned about 45,000 acres this summer and no one talked about it.

The US sent over air resources to Israel and offered hand crews, but the fires are under control now. I came across a page hosting a bunch of excellent photos of the situation over there. Some are graphic, but at least you're warned before the picture is visible. This fire is responsible for at least 42 deaths, including a bus (above) that was trapped by flames, killing 37 people. That's a pretty lame way to die.

Speaking of lame ways to die, today is Pearl Harbor day. 69 years ago today...

The photographs are some of the most fantastic I've ever seen -- horrible but beautiful as well. What a sad, sad story in all of this.
Thanks for sharing.
