Some of you know that we have been very worried about Ammon's voice and an illness he has had for the past week. Jim took him up to see Dr. Smith, our ENT at PCMC this afternoon to see if scar tissue was building up and closing off his airways. I won't go into the details of the virus, fevers, etc., but we have been really worried about him. Jim had our home teachers and Jess assist in giving Ammon a blessing last night.
The result of the doctor visit was that the endoscopy showed there is no scar tissue growing and that his trachea looks very good. His paralyzed vocal cord has begun to atrophy so Ammon will not be able to sound any louder than he does right now, but when Jim asked about a microphone as a possiblity, Dr. Smith gave us a prescription for one and said it is definitely a great idea. He even recommended a particular brand. He also suggested we get another sleep study done because Ammon has developed apnea over the past year. We think he will need a bi-pap or c-pap.
We can handle this! We are so relieved and happy! Soon we will all be able to hear Ammon and he'll be able to make his voice heard in the world once more.

Awesome! I'm so glad the scar tissue isn't growing back and things have worked out well! And it will be nice to have his voice out there for everyone to hear again!
I thought I commented on this last night...I guess I didn't save it! What good news that the scar tissue isn't growing! Did Ammon do a happy dance? He should! I'm glad he will be able to get the microphone! -Jen
Actually, he cried today when he left for school. He's never done that since he went to kindergarten. He was sad one of his favorite techs wasn't going to be there. He was afraid he wouldn't have any friends, etc. Here I've been reading Adrianne's blog about her first leaving and her sadness thinking, "Ah, get over it. Let him go. He'll be great." And there I was crying with my own boy this morning because he was afraid. I guess moms just have soft hearts.
Ammon's teacher called about 10:30 and said he was doing great so he made it over the hurdle.
I told him that he would be the envy of the school when he gets his microphone. They'll think he's a pop star. He grinned and I think he's pretty excited.
That microphone will be so great to have, then we can all hear you sing. Glad the scar tissue isn't growing back. Best of luck with all this.
