Bishop killed

Did you hear about this story? It makes me literally sick to my stomach.

There were a few times during Brent's time as bishop that we felt the need to have a hand gun in our home, and seeing these kinds of stories literally makes me feel phyically sick. We had a few very scary calls and situations where we had uncertain feelings. There were a lot of prayers and faith that we'd be fine throughout some of the difficult times. Knowing that there are such troubled people out there that would hurt innocent people is so sad. This poor man had only been bishop for a few months and had 6 boys, including a 6 mo old. I can't even begin to imagine how his dear wife must be feeling. The whole ward must be in such shock. Please include this family and ward in your prayers tonight.

I saw this last night and was so sad. I can't imagine how hard it must be for his wife and family. Just heartbreaking! I did think of you and Brent when I read the story. -Jen

We saw this last night also. Our bishop here moved his desk away from the window because he was afraid to have his back to the window. There is one man in particular that he moved his desk for. When this man shows up at the church, there are always other people around to make sure everythig is ok. Our bishop also had a gun by his bed. It's crazy to me. Who would want to be the bishop called after this?

One of the Police Chiefs in our area is a member of the church and has had to patrol the parking lot during church in the past after threats were made to the bishop.

If I am going to be killed, I would prefer that it be while doing the Lord's errand. At the same time, Michelle and I were horrified to read the story last night. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and with all of the bishops worldwide.

Brent did the same thing as your bishop. I think everytime he met with certain people, he always had a counselor stay around, just in case. I suppose these days, you just can't be too certain.

I remember standing outside our bishop's office a year ago or so and hearing some lady go ballistic on him. Yelling, name calling, etc. She's active in our ward but was having a bad day and probably hadn't taken her medicine. I'm happy as a Scoutmaster. -Jess

I'm right there with you, Jess. I never want to be a bishop. I find out more in my current calling than I really want to know.
