Note to Mother Nature: this isn't Iowa. We don't have sump pumps and we live on a hill that gathers all the neighbors' water as well as our own. Kaitlin and I stood out on the porch clapping our hands and laughing, thinking this was really cool until we saw the driveway fill up so fast we hardly knew what was happening. And then we were alarmed. This happened one day last July before Gillian's wedding. It flooded her room. We dashed downstairs and could see the water getting higher and higher in the window well of her old bedroom. We began to frantically move the bed and pull up the edge of the carpet. I kept thinking, "It doesn't rain very long. This will stop." It didn't. Pretty soon the muddy water spilled from the bottom of the window and it started pouring down the wall. We kept pulling up the carpet and scrambling to get out to the garage to get the shop vac only to find that the garage was totally flooded.
Jim grumpily got up from his Sunday nap to help us. We were much better prepared this time. The storm lasted about 20 minutes. For Utah that's a BIG summer storm. I know - all you that don't live in the West are laughing. But hey, we don't have a sump pump and it was raining so hard the gutters couldn't handle the water. It even hailed for a few minutes.
Luckily we got the water sopped up and the fan on. The carpet got a little wet but not as badly as it did last summer. We've got to get better prepared for another one like this. We've lived here over 10 years and have only seen two storms like this - last July and this July. Hmmm...This photo below is for you, David. Sorry that the Netherlands couldn't beat Spain. It was close. Ammon wore his hat and cape just for you.

Crazy! We didn't get anything like that today! It rained overnight and sprinkled at times today, but that's it! I'm glad the water didn't do much damage this time! -Jen

Glad it was you and not me!!! Although, we could use the rain out here. Everything is brown and ugly. I'm missing Ohio's green SO much these days.
And Dave was truly bummed yesterday. Any body else realized how much Dave actually looks like the Netherland's goalie?? He's got a 6'5" twin out there!
Holy rain! I know what you mean about short rain storms. I've wondered a lot when I drive down the Wasatch front about mud slides and flooded basements. There are a lot of houses on built on hills. It's just a good thing you were around to keep it from getting too bad.
