I was in the basement all day yesterday but while I was down there making messes and then cleaning them up, Jen decided she wanted to try a fondant cake. Those cakes always look fake to me and I hear they don't taste very good, so I was amused at the decision.
She made a yellow cake, stacked them up, and threw down this fondant wrap. We all tasted it. The cake part was excellent; the frosting, while looking pretty, tasted like rubbery powdered sugar (her words, not mine). It looks great, though, especially for her first time without any instruction besides a website.

The cake looks great! I don't like the taste of fondant either. I will say however, that homemade fondant is way, way better than the store bought stuff. Keep making cakes Jen!
I am impressed with all the things Jen makes using food coloring without the artifical colors. The other day she made adorable sugar crystals for cookies. You are very determined and dedicated!! Good job missy...love the cake
Have you guys been watching Cake Boss? Your cake looks so beautiful!
I have a great idea -- Adrianne, you move back here and you and Jen could start your own business like Ace of Cakes (best show ever!). Now how fun would that be?!?
Beautiful job, Jen. Keep it up.

Oh my...I wouldn't ever be good enough to make a cake for someone, but I'd be happy to help Adrianne! It was fun to make and I was just happy I was able to put the frosting on the cake!
That looks fabulous! I can't believe you taught yourself to do that! Way to go! Now all the girls will want a great bday cake. Have fun!
