That's all she wrote folks!

We've had a lot of long, late nights this past week. Unfortunately, last night was no different. Jake was up literally SCREAMING all. night. long....ugh. He kept saying (and I quote!), " There's a grasshopper up my nose!" and "I think the cavity bugs are lifting up my tongue!" What the heck? All I could gather was that he has a terrible sore throat, runny nose, but no fever. I don't care what the dr trys to tell me today. Something is wrong. Can he possibly have strep and no fever? His breath is atrocious! and he won't eat his breakfast, which is unusual for Jake.

I feel like I've been hit by a truck this morning. This is presicly why I don't handle new babies too well~ I don't function well on no sleep. Poor Brent has to actually stay awake during a day full of endless meetings. By the time Brent made it home from church yesterday, I think it took all of about 2 min for me to find him like this:

I think he spent something like 10 hrs at church yesterday, and was certainly ready to hit the pillow (or couch, or whatever would hold him up, I guess). Needless to say, I hope we get some answers and sleep around here or nice momma will be a thing of the past. She's hanging on by a thread these days.

I hope you get some sleep tonight! It's so hard when you have a couple nights in a row of bad sleep! Lauren woke up a few times last night, but I was only out of bed for a few minutes at a time...much better than being up all night with an upset child! Good luck! -Jen

I'm sorry you had such a rough night but I'm glad you were vindicated in your suspicions about Jake having strep throat and a double ear infection. No wonder the poor boy was awake all night.
Get better, Jakie!

Did you get him to the doctor? Is he sleeping now?

Hope you get some much needed rest soon.

I'm so sad for Jake. What a sick little guy. I'm sad for you and Brent too (though you more because I hear Brent sleeps like a log). I hope he gets better soon.

How's Jake? Is he feeling any better? Bad breath and a sore throat are certainly symptoms of Strep but it could be any one of a number of bacteria (or even a virus) that have set up shop. How do his tonsils and uvula (the hangy thing) look? Sometimes the tonsilar crypts can get colonized and cause problems. I hope he feels better.

Jake is already feeling much better. The dr wasn't even going to do a strep test because he didn't think it looked like strep despite the swollen tonsils and uvula. Thankfully he did the test "just in case" and came back in the room very suprised. I could've told him it would be positve. Jake's had a million colds with a sore throat but this one was definitely different. I wish drs could take mother's intuition as fact sometimes! As far as the ears, go they are both infected as well. So, 2 ear infections and strep throat is what he's dealing with. Just one dose of his medication (Omnicef)and he slept SO much better last night! Whew. Back to normal in a jiffy! Let's just hope Sarah doesn't get this strep now. She's the one that usually has it. This is Jake's first time with strep, so I wonder if Sarah is the carrier in the first place. I probably ought to check!

I am glad Jake is feeling better.

How mahy times has Sarah had Strep? Has the Doc said anything about taking her tonsils out?

Yeah, we had decided about a yr ago that if Sarah had strep one more time withing a 6 mo period, we'd take them out. Then she didn't have it again. It's been a while now, but when that girl gets a sore throat, her tonsils look like walnuts and the uvula is always stuck to the side of her tonsils. It's pretty gross really. We have a new pediatrician now and I don't know what he would've done. I hated our last one, so I'm glad we finally switched. We took too long to do it though.

Remember that Strep is so dangerous. Not just to the throat, but to to other parts of the body it migrates to. Your cousin Steve Clark almost died from a strep problem which originated at the dentist. Ammon has to take a heavy dose of antibiotics when he goes to the dentist. Chris' mother, Shirley, had reumatic fever which comes from strep leaveing the throat and migrating to the heart. It affected her for the rest of her mortal life.

Hope Jake has recovered well, and that nice Mom has gotten some sleep. Sleep deprivation is the primary sacrifice that mothers make. So feel good about that, Chelsey, if you can.
