October Leaves

It snowed twice in the last couple of days around here. We had about four inches in the south of the valley up on the foothills where we live. It did not snow much in the north of the valley. The problem is that it is cold, and the leaves have not fallen off of the trees. Yesterday they got a start, but still have a ways to go. It is quite a sight to look out and see the snow covered yard and the snow covered with leaves. I sure hope it warms up some so that we can get the leaves raked up before the deep of winter. It would be a gooey mess is we could not.

I can only remember one year that the snow came in October and stayed. That was the winter of 1976. Chris and I were living on the BYU farm and working the swine unit. We had been on a trip to the Midwest for some reason and when we came home it snowed. There was over a foot of snow in Woodland Hills. Elk Ridge was only a very small community then. I did not even know it existed. The snow that year never melted until spring. We used to laugh at how the poor people in Woodland Hills got around. We thought them very ill advised for living in such a winterised place.

One last thing: Our Mulberry tree, the one through the deck, has only lost a very few leaves. When it decides to shed, it usually looses all of its leaves in on day. It is very unusual. It is like a snow storm, except the snow flakes are green.

I'll rake as long as I don't have to shovel.
I hope it warms up enough for the snow to melt so we can get those leaves off the lawn.
Now if we could just get rid of that very large marshmallow in our driveway we'd be ready for winter. How about it, Dad?

Is the marshmallow the Tracker? Glad we've missed all the snow so far. It was actually a little chilly last night here in Anaheim, but it's a relative "chilly." We still went swimming in the hotel's pool... -Jess

We had beautiful leaves last week but this week it has all turned brown. Although it isn't snowing here, we are getting plenty of rain (blah!). I would almost rather it snow.

I remember the winter of 1976. That was the winter we moved to Nebraska (76/77 winter). I seem to remember there being more snow in Nebraska than Utah. And there was certainly more wind.

No snow here yet, thankfully. Like Jason, the leaves are mostly brown and fallen off here. I'm holding my breath for the snow. I wouldn't mind the snow if it stayed for a day and then left. I just need some happy, warm, bright days thrown in there.
