Independance Day

Funny, today I heard one of the radio commentators say that Obama was going to change the name of our holiday to Dependence Day. I think you all know what he meant.

I want you all to know how much I love this country and its political organization. The U.S. Constitution is the most significant document that was ever written in the secular world. It in fact is sacred. It was given to us by men, imperfect men albeit, who were wise enough to listen to the inspiration of Heaven in drafting its provisions. It has allowed for our liberty to be maintained, and for us to make individual progress with our freedom. Without that, liberty, no real progress is possible for anyone.

We must be vigilant in seeing to it that its original intent and principles are maintained. This must be in spite of the changing meaning of the words in our language. The meanings and intent of the Constitution must be inviolate and unchanging. From a book that I am reading by Mark Levin: "To say that the Constitution is a 'living and breathing document' is to give license to arbitrary and lawless activism." And again: "If the Constitution's meaning can be erased or rewritten, and the Framers' intentions ignored, it ceases to be a constitution but is instead a concoction of political expedients that serve the contemporary policy agendas of the few who are entrusted with the public authority to preserve it."

This book is Liberty and Tyranny. Right now it is one of the most read books in America. It is a good one.

On the 4th we celebrate the writing of the Declaration of Independence. Our founding fathers adopted the principle of natural law, given by God, as the basis for our political organization. The Declaration says" We hold these truths to be self-evident . . . that all men . . . are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." What famous words! What significant meaning! This is truly a God fearing nation, or should be. This is in spite of the dangerous words the President spoke in a trip to Europe and the Middle East. We must not tolerate the idea in our society that secularism is supreme and especially that it always has been. What foolishness.

I love this country! May you enjoy your holiday, and may you especially spend some time considering what we are celebrating. Pass your understanding on to the next generation. Make sure that what they get is right and lovingly respectful of our county.

Love you all, Dad Clark

I hope you have a good holiday weekend, too, Dad! We'll be swinging by the house Friday morning on our way to The Ranch in Bicknell.

No fireworks for us, but we'll celebrate our independence in Torrey watching a parade.

Although Dad and I don't always agree politically, I wholeheartedly, 100% agree with his post. We do indeed live in a unique country guided by an inspired constitution. Judicial activists like Sotomayor will do nothing to strengthen our country. Our constitution is not a document that changes with the times. What most people fail to grasp is that the times really don't change, only the scenery does. I love our country and everything for which it stands.

Have a great Independence Day!

Yep, we're enjoying our (illegal) fireworks today. Did I say that?? OH apparently won't let anyone do ANY fireworks worth doing. Even law enforcement is against this dumb law.

That said, I love this holiday! We're even doing a patriotic flag game in primary tomorrow. It drives me NUTS when people don't know how to act around the flag ~ you know, hats off, hand over the heart, etc. Surprising how few people show respect like they should.
