Isaac hasn't been going to Nursery very well since we moved here. I've mentioned that on Sunday mornings he will try and rip his clothes off and say, "I'm not going to church" or he'll suddenly get "sick." Last week when we got to the Nursery room he took off running down the hall. I asked the Nursery leaders if they want me to stay for a few weeks to get him a little more used to it or if they want me just to leave him. They always say to leave him and he'll stop crying in a few minutes. I haven't really been sure what to do--do I keep him out of Nursery? Do I just keep taking him until he gets used to it, etc.
There is a Nursery leader that I think is great. I have been wanting to get to know her but since I'm not in Nursery and she is there both hours there hasn't been a good oportunity. So, I just decided to call her and invite her to do something even though she doesn't know me. We had a picnic at the park. She asked Isaac if he would bring a picture of Diamond to share with the class. Then she invited us to go swimming on base so we did that later in the week.
Isaac is afraid of the water. Usually he won't go in the water past the stairs. He cries when we hold him and take him out further into the pool. He had floaties and I tried coaxing him to come out with me but he wouldn't. Then this lady showed up and saw I had Eli in my arms and said, "Isaac, come in the water with me." He went right to her and swam with her. Then she said she liked his curious george swimming suit and that she had a curious george stuffed animal that she would bring to Nursery. When she got out of the pool to get something he said to me, "Mom, where is that lady?" He noticed Will jumping into the water (Will is a fish!!) he decided he would do that and he would jump to this lady over and over. He eventually decided I wasn't so bad afterall and would jump to me as well.
This lady is a Nursery leader in the younger Nursery. We talked about it and decided that since he was the oldest by 18 months in our previous Nursery that he probably wouldn't mind if he was with little kids. On Sunday we brought in his picture of Diamond and had him go into the Nursery with her. She had her curious george and did fine. He played the whole time and didn't cry once.
I know most people don't like to be in Nursery but I am really glad there are people that embrace it and magnify any calling even if it is just Nursery. I'm really glad I called her even if it was a tad awkward to call someone I don't know at all. I hope we can continue to get to know each other and I'm so glad Isaac is liking Nursery now.
*We found a farm to visit this past week. I posted pictures of it. I'm going to take Katy there when she comes out.
