We are in Big Trouble

I am amazed at what is going on polically. I watched the speeches the other day. I am totally amazed! "I am going to cut the deficit." Right. "There were not earmarks in the stimulous." Only a few thousand.

With the amount of the new budget and the fact that only the rich actually pay most of the taxes, it is going to be imposable to actually pay off any of that debt. The day will come when lenders to our government will not be willing to buy worthless bonds, or to loan money to the government in any way. Then, that means bankruptcy! Yes the feds will be bankrupt. It will not be me who pays on that debt, or suffers the total mess. I hopefully, will be dead. But Geoff, Caleb, John, Eva, Abby, Henry, and the rest will suffer greatly.

I just cannot believe what is happening. When I was a kid, I used to be upset when the government offered agricultural subsidies. Wow! That was nothing. Boy, I can't wait to get my thirteen dollars.

It's a bit of a double-edged sword right now. It does seem like we're setting ourselves up for failure at a later date and that this is simply an attempt by government (either side) to say "Look, we're doing something." Hence, TARP and ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act).

However, the ARRA directly affects the place of work. The US Forest Service gets $1.15B from this project and they are tickled pink about this, like any land management agency would be, to catch up on work they've put off for so long due to lack of funds.

What I don't understand, though, is how this will help in the long run. That's $1.15B over the next 18 months. We can't exactly hire a bunch of new federal employees or start new ambitious programs/projects; rather, this money has to be used to pay contractors to do project work so that when the funds dry up in 18 months, we can all move on and get back to reality -- namely, lots of work and little money.
