Pres. Obama

So, what do you all think? I just watched the inaugaration. If nothing else, President Obama is a fantastic speaker. I have high hopes but low expectations. I think the nation is in for a lot of disappointment in the coming months. So many people seem to think that they are going to wake up tomorrow morning and the world will be a better place. The fault for that will lie with us (the people) rather than Obama - at least at first. Obama stated that this will be a long process. I hope everybody was listening. I will be interested to see where he is going to be getting all the money he is going to be needing for everything he has proposed.

I wish him success.

He will be getting the money from you and from me. I am disgusted with the fact that his inaguration events will be the most expensive in the history of the US. Good way to start, President! In such a lousy economy, it would have been nice to see him scale things way down to set an example of responsiblity that he was supposed to talk about but didn't end up saying too much in that area. (Reports said that was supposed to be one of his points but he didn't cover it.) I had to listen to it on my computer and it had a hard time streaming so I didn't get as much as I would have liked.
Whether I like it or not, he's president. I'm worried that he will spend all my money before I get a chance to spend it.

Well, the difference is that Obama can read, unlike the previous president. The speeches come largely from hired speechwriters and for some reason, Bush always found a way to sound ignorant when reading them. Obama is a master at the delivery.

I have to admit I was proud for the African American community today. Just to see the history unfolding was pretty cool today. Now no black (or any other race) person can say they don't have the same opportunities. That's a lame excuse anyway. Obama just proved it.

I feel bad for Bush leaving the office in such poor approval ratings. You know he had to have done the very best he could've ~ even if we didn't always like the outcome. What would Laura Bush have said to him getting in the helicopter and flying off? I'm sorry the nation hated you and Obama made you look even worse in his speech?

I guess we'll see what happens. The first 100 days will tell I guess. I didn't feel too optimistic after his speech. He's a great speaker, and hopefully for that he'll actually reach across some lines and make useful progress. BTW, did anyone else think Hillary looked bitter today? She had that "it should've been me" look.

It's nice to have a young family in the White House too. That will be interesting to watch.

I feel a bit slighted about the African American angle to all this. Yes, it is great that America elected a black man to be president...but not because he's black, but because he was thought of as the best candidate. The only "victory" this should be for African Americans is that they finally put out a candidate that was actually feasible (let's see...Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton...you get what I mean?). It's not that America wouldn't vote in a black president, but rather it's just that there haven't been any good black candidates!

They never mention that he is 1/2 white. His mom is from Kansas isn't she? So what makes him more black than white. I don't get it. I don't know his mother's ancestry but they could have called him Scottish American,or German American or what ever. Why do they make such a big deal about him being African American? There are a lot of white skinned people who have African Ancestry. Besides, the color of the skin in just that. Color. I just am interested in what he can do for our country.

I do not get a lot out of the anti-idealism talk, the call for pragmatism. That is just a way of saying I have few principles to go by that are really "that" important.

On a very negative note, I cannot concieve of any of the former President's wives going out in public in such a dress as MO did the other night. Oh, it was not bad compared with Hollywoods finest at the Oscars, but then what does this whole thing say about what direction we are going in? Am I the only one that noticed such a thing?

Don't get me wrong. I like "my woman" dressed like that in my bedroom, but please keep other women away.

This bailout thing is going to be a disaster. It will not accomplish what was intended, and the cost to the public is unbelievable. I think the Republicans are just as wrong about it as the Democrats, although some are beginning to wake up. But it is too late. Even McCain was an idiot on this bailout plan.

In the great depression, in Europe, where fewer socialist type solutions were used at the time (not now for sure), they got out of the hurt much quicker than we did and had better economies quicker. Only the war actually got us going. And in reality, it was clear until 1954 before we had as many jobs out there as before the depression.

I wish Obama well, but only as his intentions show themselves as not just self serving political mash. Heaven help us.

When you write MO, do you mean Michelle Obama? And what dress are you referring to?

I wish there wasn't so much negative polital talk on this blog. It seems to me anyway.

Why don't we all just pray for this president to do his best and hopefully turn our country around instead of saying anything negative about him or judging him.
