Annual Nativity Display

Our stake has an annual Nativity Display for the community every year. Last year we only did it on Fri and Sat, but there was enough of a demand from the community to have it on Sunday also that we only had our Sacrament services today so we could open the church to the public for the display again today. Various choir groups performed this whole weekend ~ including the Heritage Elementary Show Choir, which Sarah is a part of. She was SOOOO excited to show all her school friends where she went to church! It's been a great missionary experience. Last year we had about 325 nonmembers come to the display. This year will probably be more after today. We passed out free church christmas videos. They even made pass along cards for the display with the map of the church on it. Brent gave one to everyone in his department and a couple of them came! Our neighbors went again this year too. I took some photos for you to see. They really don't even show the magnitude you feel walking in these rooms. It's amazing to see so many sets from all over the world. I would love to see this happen in every stake! It's a great family thing to do too! The primary room was all set up with costumes (each in a sm, md, lg), a stable, a coloring table, and a movie area. The kids had a great time! Each room was given a theme ~ the blue room, white room, international room, etc.

The blue room. They disguised all the chalk boards and everything. Nice fireplace huh! Not too bad.

The red room.

The white room. I loved this white nativity. It's amazing in person!

The gym was the international room. It had some seriously cool displays! There were displays from Africa, Latin America, Europe, the Philippines, Russia, and Eastern Europe. The large set is from the Czech Republic and they're marionettes! The gym didn't even look like a gym! I wish you all could've come to see this. Hey! Adrianne and Mike get to see it next year! Yeah for us (and you ;)!

This was a homemade nativity from a college student in our ward. He didn't have money to buy his mother a present for christmas so he made her this. Amazing huh!

Apparently Jake wanted to play the baby Jesus. Geoff was a greedy wise man -- I guess we need to clarify they brought the gifts, not took the gifts...

I am so glad you put this on! I loved hearing about it last year and again this year. And now to see the photos gives me a feeling of total amazement.
I, too, loved that white nativity set - I think that is the most beautiful one I've ever seen.
Thanks for sharing!

That is cool. I have seen something similar to this at the Washington D.C. visitors center. It was amazing. I'm excited to see it next year.

Our stake does a nativity night, too. They invite anyone in the stake to bring their nativities (international or not) and put them on display. We don't put in nearly the coordination and planning you guys do, though. That same night is also a stake musical night where ward choirs and musical numbers in the chapel.

The one thing we're lacking is a strong missionary focus.
