Last Blog

I work with a man up in Salt Lake City who is not a Mormon. In fact, he is an active Catholic. We have become friends through the years and I find that he is a sensitive, caring guy. He has a son that he doesn't get to see very often due to a nasty divorce and that always makes him sad. He is also a BYU fan amongst avid Utah fans swarming all over his office. Today I sent him an e-mail and told him that he ought to check out Ammon's blog so he could see the fun we had last week. This man had never really checked out a blog and he was quite excited to see it and see what we do.
Here is how he responded:

Chris,
This has been an inspiration to me. I have tears in my eyes. I just want to say that if all families were like yours the world would be a greater place. What a marvelous bunch of pictures I wonder how I could even start to build a blog. I’ll have to spend more time looking into the blog. Your son must have had a bunch of fun at the football practice. I feel blessed to know you. Thanks ...

So be the family we ought to be for the public view. Take the personal hurts directly to those who hurt you like the scriptures ask us to do. We are watched all the time whether we like it or not. I am proud of all of you and love you but I have decided that I need to take a break from this. My mind and spirit are weary. I do not want to be the leaven for anybody for a while.

My excuse for the misspelled words is that I was typing in the dark.

Oh, it's not Mom's last post. I think most of us at one point or another have felt like we need to just back off and not add any fuel to any fire that's currently burning (and we've lit lots of fires...). But Mom can't resist this blog! It's so great that she'll always come back! Especially when delighted by humor at the expense of a Republican. Speaking of which... Tada!

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Sarah Palin and her bid to be a heartbeat away from being President.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Palin is a post turtle.'

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was.

The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle.'

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain.

'You know she didn't get up there by herself, she doesn't belong up there, she doesn't know what to do while she is up there, and you just wonder what kind of idiot put her up there to begin with.'

I do not find that story very funny. I think things are funny when they have elements that are truthfull. If that story is in any way true, a person has been decieved by its retoric, at least by the retoric of those presenting such garbage.

It just may be right that the kind of Washington politicianneeded is one that is not normally considered by previous position, placement, or personal desire.
