Debaters

Seriously, what's the point of a presidential debate?

It's nothing more than a glorified spin zone. Each campaign immediately says "We won!" Each campaign grabs an out-of-context soundbite and runs with it. A neutral fact checker runs through all the claims made by the candidates during the debate and reports on how (in)accurate the statements were.

The current state of American presidential politics is a joke. Absolute joke. I hate it.

Maybe writing in Ted Nugent really isn't such a bad idea.

I had to laugh over the trainwreck it was though! McCain's economic bailout solution of basically reevaluating everyone's home (those that are in jeopardy of losing theirs) and refinancing it at a new value does nothing but hurt those of us that actually make our payments and do our best to deal with this crappy economy. That just means my house values are killed in this process. The average joe gets hurt in this. I think everyone is panicking and wall street is making a bigger issue than it ought to be. Yes, many are in trouble. But why not let them suffer the consequences of making poor choices? I know it's more complicated than that, but that's the feeling I have about it all. Real christlike attitude, I know...;(

Oh-- and Obama? That was a joke last night. How can anyone say he "won" the debate? No one won. Least of all the american public. Kudos to Tom Brokaw though for trying to jab them both for "breaking the rules".

I do find it funny that in the news today most people view Obama as the victor last night, but I watched most the debate and didn't get that vibe at all. I feel like you: no one was a clear "winner." And now if people didn't watch the debates, but read on CNN that Obama was the clear winner, they'll believe that without any consideration of the source.

The reason that Obama is the winner is because the people that report are liberals. They love Obama and they have shed a better light on him from the beginning.

We started watching it and then got sick of it and did something else--check our blog out tonight.

Mike says everyone is making a big deal out of the current economic situation. I agree with Chelsey. It is unfair that everyone else suffers because people didn't use their money wisely. I think forgiveness and repentance are essential and I would hate to think people actually lose their homes but I also think there should be some justice as well.

I haven't watched a debate in quite a while nor will I until the moderators actually start making the candidates follow the rules. I did listen to part of the debate on NPR though. As Jess said, it was a glorified spin zone. Nothing real is said. The candidates need to be asked hard questions and given very limited time to respond. This will either force them to say something with some meat to it or have no answer at all. What a bunch of crap.

I'm writing in Glen Beck. I hated the debate - didn't think there was much substance. And I thought I would throw up with McCain's "my friends" being said a thousand times! (I don't consider him as my friend - why on earth did he throw that one in?)
I think it is totally a political ploy on Obama's part to talk about the middle class - he just started focusing on them after he was criticized about hobnobbing with the elite and rich Hollywood bunch. I don't think he gives a whit about the middle class.
I can't believe these two are the best America has to offer. Maybe we are the ones to blame because we allowed these two to be the final choices.
Grrrr...

The debate was so boring that I turned it off. I couldn't stand it.

I'm still voting for Romney. I'm writing him in. I was hoping
McCain would pick him for his running mate and somehow an accidental accident would just happen to McCain and then Romney would be the president after all.

Oh did I really write that? Sounds meaner when I read it back. :)

Hopefully someday Romney will be President.

In retrospect, Romney would have been a much better choice than McCain...and especially better as a VP choice than Palin the joke. I think Romney would have given McCain a shot of legitimacy when it comes to the economic struggles.

I think is is imperative that Obama not win or by reason of two coming court appointments there will be national disaster for a long time, may be leading to the ending time.

It is not that McCain was the best candidate, but he is the candidate.

I listened to the debate. It is all we have and there were some things to be learned and understood, especially from the commentators and pundits opinions on several channels then and even today. I like to be very well informed and I put lots of time and effort into it.
