Broken Rib

It looks like Mom and Dad are getting to know the medical system in Salt Lake City quite well.  Apparently Dad slipped in the shower yesterday and broke a rib.  They were in the ER at SL Regional until 1am last night.  When it rains it pours, right?

Oh Dad! That is so sad. I'm sorry. I hope you recover quickly and I'm sorry all of this is happening.

I'm going over to the Ronald McDonald house this afternoon to give him a blessing with Jen's brother Kevin. I'll have more info when I get back.

I talked to mom this morning on the phone. Please keep them all in your prayers. Gilly and Katy, make sure you get help from your ward if you need it! Dad's going to need you girls to step up a little, but since you'll both be gone most of the day, someone's going to have to check in on Dad to make sure he's okay while you're all gone. Good luck you guys. I wish I were there to help!

He broke a rib on his left side (not cracked, but a good old fashioned broke). He can't move much when laying down, is very grateful for pain medication, and sure can't wait for the recovery.

I guess Uncle Jack recently broke three ribs and his clavicle and Dad says, based on his single broken rib, he just can't understand how anyone can deal with that pain.

There's nothing Dad can do but take pain medication and let it recover.

Thanks, Jess, for giving Dad a blessing. The kids all came up to the hospital tonight to see Ammon and the girls came to pick up Jim. I have sent him home to sleep in Ammon's orange recliner.
Jim is in a lot of pain. He took a very hard fall in the shower last night. We had to go to an ER to get some pain medication to help him get through the situation. We knew they couldn't do anything more than that, but he needed help so he could navigate even the simplest things. I suspect he will be one hurting guy for several weeks.
I'm not sure if there was supposed to be a lesson in this seemingly senseless happening right now, but my pride finally broke today and I called my Relief Society President and said, "We need help. We thought we could do all this alone, but we can't." There is a nurse in our ward who's a good friend. She will come in a couple of times a day to check on him and to make sure he doesn't get pneumonia. They will get a couple of other men to help with the chores where necessary and to just check and see if Jim needs help getting to a doctor, getting out of a chair, etc. I am putting this in their hands right now. I think Gillian and Kaitlin need a little respite, too. They have been expected to carry a pretty big load for the past six weeks and, unfortunately, they have a couple more to tough out. If any of you feel like inviting them to your house for a little entertainment, please feel free to do that.
Thank you to all who have added your prayers in our behalf. I will do my best to look at the big picture and see what lesson I should have learned from the fall last night.
One lesson I know for sure - I love Jim and really depend on him. I'm sorry this happened to him.
