Plane Crash in Iowa City

This is why you don't ride in a small plane in bad weather.

We had downpour rains around 8a.m. this morning, according the the news over 2 inches in 20 minutes, then heavy winds of over 60 m.p.h. This happened during the heavy winds at shortly before 10a.m. There were 3 people on board, the baby had to be resuscitated, but is fine now. All three people are at the U.of I. hospital right now, according to a policeman I talked to while photographing this.

This happened within a 1/2 mile of my house, right by Danes Dairy for those of you who have been here and eaten ice cream with the children there.

I think we got your morning rain this afternoon! We're a drowning sticky mess out here. Glad it didn't find your house!

Unfortunately, the toddler involved in the accident died last night due to her injures. Her and her mother were flying back home after being treated here at the University hospital. I went and looked at the wreckage last night. The pilot did a good job putting it down where he did. There are wheels and props and pieces of wing spead from the point of impact up to where you see the main fuselage. There are houses 50 feet to the right of where he landed and a large gas station about 50 yards to the left. Too far in either direction and the wreck would have been much worse.
