Stepping Stones part 1

Jason wanted to put a stone or block walkway to the backyard since the grass is not surviving under all the traffic going back there all the time.

I thought making our own stepping stones would look awesome. We only bought two cement molds to start so only two people can make their stone at the same time. We started with the youngest two children. Here is Scott making his stone and then how they turned out.

My kids would love doing something like this! Where'd you get the supplies and instructions? Did you have some sort of kit? This would make a fun FHE activity.

You can buy kits but I'm too cheap for that. We went to Michael's and bought the shells, stones, etc... and then I went to Menard's (the Midwest version of Lowe's - although we have one of those too) and bought a couple of bags of quik-crete. I mixed the cement with water until I got the consistancy I wanted and then poured the concrete into the molds. You have to let it set for a while (two hours in our case) before putting in the lettering and the palm print.

These are cute - we ought to have every memeber of our family do one when you come out to visit and then put them in our front lawn, replacing the rock walkway Jim had the boys do several years ago. Those rocks are nearly buried now and you can't walk on them.
Hmmm....great idea!

I've seen stuff like this at Hobby Lobby, Chelsey. I think it cool you guys just did your own though. Fun idea.

Hobby Lobby, Michaels and probably even Wal-mart has colored stones and fun trinkets you can put in the cement. I got the idea out of a family fun magazine and thought that it would be fun. It said in the magazine that even pennies with your birthday on it are fun to put in the cement. Or any small toy. We bought fancy marbles since I figured that small toys wouldn't feel good under feet if you were barefoot walking on the stones.

We also want to make one that says Clarks with the year we moved here in one stone.

However you do need to have a place to wash the cement off your hands and the cement out of the bucket, we did this at the end of the driveway where there's a hole that needed cement anyway.

You guys are very creative. I like Mom's idea of making stepping stones for our lawn, but now I need the people to make the stones. I guess I need to get the suppiles, and over a period of time I will get the stones made. Thanks for the wonderful idea.
