Our little friend

This morning I went to open the dishwasher to get Isaac a sippy cup and I saw a cricket in our dishwasher! I, of course, screamed and shut the door. What to do? I thought the best option would be to drown him so I turned on the dishwasher and then opened it up again a few minutes later. I couldn't see him anymore. Upon further investigation I realized that there were tiny cricket body parts all over! Isn't that so gross? I didn't want to wash our dishes with cricket body parts so I ran it without soap and now I have to run it again. I hate crickets!

This whole area is covered with crickets and grasshoppers. We're afraid they're going to eat our garden this year. Even if we get them out of our yard, they'll just fly over from the neighbors' houses. I've heard a jar of opened Molasses will attract and trap them. Who knows? I'm going to start praying for seagulls.

I hear they are quite good deep fried and covered in chocolate.

I always wondered why Jason could make the cricket noise with his mouth. He's eaten too many of 'em!

Deep fried chocolate covered crickets. Can't say I'd considered that.

I ate a cooked and dried cricket once to win a sweatshirt. It tasted like burnt toast. I had to not think about it while chewing.

Was the sweatshirt worth it?

For the record, I have never ingested a cricket although I have eaten other insects (carpenter ants taste like rasberries).

Think about it, Adrianne. Your thumb weighs more than the dumb critter -- just get a paper towel and grab it with the paper towel so you don't have to touch it and then toss it in the toilet -- but to wash it in the dishwasher??!! Ugh. You guys and your bugs and spiders!!

Yes the sweatshirt was worth it. I still wear it to this day!

There is a meally (dry) material that is very effective in attracting and killing grasshoppers and crickets. It is safe and used in a try like a bait. I do not remember the name, but the County Extention Agent would know it.

You might talk to them about your garden, too. They are very helpful and it is good and free at the same time. (Chelsey and Adrianne both)
