Finally

I am officially the lightest I have been since Daniel was born - 205.5 lbs. Noise makers, confetti, streamers!!! After being stuck between 210 and 215 for over a year, I am finally making some more progress. Slight diet modifications and this new class that I am teaching are doing to trick. My goal has been to get down to 190 by the end of June. Only 15 more lbs to go. I do worry about what will happen when my body won't let me exercise as hard or as much as I am doing now. I currently get between 4 and 6 hours of exercise a week but lately I feel like it has started to take over my life. That can't happen. A good portion of that is in the early morning hours but some of it is (by necessity) in prime time family time. Maybe if I could just exercise a little more self-discipline in the diet area I could back off a bit. Chances are pretty good that I am going to reduce my teaching load by about half within the next month or two anyway - I am getting mentally tired.

Wow! Congratulations! I'm truly impressed by your stamina, will-power, etc. I've noticed in the photos lately that you are looking really good.
This will definitely help your health in the long run. I wish I had the same will-power. (So does my body.)

So how come you're losing weight with this new workout program and I feel like I've gained a few pounds? If we were doing a lot of weights with it I'd understand, but we really only do work with the ball (abs and pushups) and small hand weights. I don't think I'm eating more than usual either. It's getting frustrating. I need to work 2x as hard these days to get it off! I lost almost 10 lbs before our trip to Hawaii last summer, but with the move and stress I've managed to put it back on. I would really, really like to take it off!! I can't go to the gym every day, so should I stay after my aerobics class and lift more weights or something?
Congrats on your own weight loss though! I'm jealous.

Adding muscle mass will increase the amount of calories that you burn but a lot of women don't like looking bulky. The new class I am teaching is all cardio. The music is fast - kind of like club music - and the movements are big. Research has shown that the average calorie burn in this class is just over 700/hour. It is also important to have variety in your workout. Our bodies are very good at adapting which is why our wieght loss tends to plateau after a certain amount of time during any given exercise program. Experts say that it is best to interchange cardio and weight training every other day with about 1 day of rest. Keep at it, Chelsey, the results will come. Just find something that you like to do and it will be easier.

That is so awesome. I am always inspired by people that lose weight by working hard. There are those people that we all know (and many of them in our family) that can lose weight without doing anything. I'm honestly not trying to be rude but those people don't inspire me....they just make me jealous! ;) Anyway, ever since having Isaac I have started to really put exercise into my life and I'm such a happier person. I didn't lose all that I wanted to but I felt happier, healthier, and felt I was on my way to a better body. So, after this baby I hope to do even better. Thanks for the example.

Adrianne,

You make a good point. None of us may ever lose all that we want but exercise does have the power to make us healthier and happier. I may never see the six pack I had in High School again but I sure feel better now than I did even 5 years ago.

That's true. I don't have to work too hard to bulk up my legs so I'm weary of doing too much work there. (Thanks to inheriting dad's genes;)) I am taking a cardio dance class that kicks my butt almost every class. One of our instructors "powers up" everything and before I know it, I've forgotten that I can still do a lower impact if I need to. She makes us all want to die by the end of class. Yesterday we did inner and outer thighs too. Just one more set.... You should've heard us in there! We all sounded like we were ready to give birth with the grunts!!! It was pretty funny really!

Is your dance class called Zumba?

I just trained for that and it's so fun. I get to start teaching it next week. It's a Latin Dance Aerobic workout class. I'm having tons of fun learning it even thought my hips don't quite move like their instructors on the DVD's. Oh I'm having a blast.

I got married at 205lbs. I immediately gained about 15 lbs. and have been at that weight for 6 years now. I fluctuate between 215 and 225 lbs. I do just enough to not get any bigger, but not enough to get down to my ideal weight (I think) of 210.

However, I'm probably pretty close to that now that I've been through a basketball season.

Michelle,
I haven't taken the Zumba class yet. It's offered here at the YMCA and it looks really fun!! I can't take it during the time it's scheduled though. Maybe next session. Good luck teaching it! I can't wait to take it! I figured I ought to try and remember the typical aerobic steps beore I get to eager to take Zumba. Is it mostly high energy latin dance?

It is extremely high energy Latin dance, however you don't have to know what you are doing to take the class, basically you just go and have fun and you just keep moving and pretty soon you are just laughing and burning tons of calories. I lost 2 pounds this week just from adding Zumba to my life and I haven't done it that much yet. Only 1 class during the training this last weekend, and then some practicing this week to learn the choreography. I think you'd love it.

I am not sure that I should even comment. Maybe I should just say I am jealous. I have lost more wieght than anyone in the family during my life. But I am a pretty easy keeper and I eat too much good stuff.

So, what can I say except that I am happy to see so many in the family avoid my problems.
