My car broke down on Tuesday. I went outside to go to work and it wouldn't start. The battery/alternator was fine (the engine was turning), but it wouldn't catch and start. It wasn't until Saturday that I had time to look at it with someone who has a car brain (much like the one you see here).I had assumed my fuel pump was bad. We checked the spark plugs, distributor cap, fuel injectors, and fuel pump. All seemed to be fine. Then he looked at my fuel filter and asked when I'd last replaced that. I've owned the car for three years and have never changed that fella. I can honestly say I've never even considered it. Air? Oil? Sure. Fuel? No. For the fun of it, he said "Let's pull the filter off and see if it's plugged."
The filter hadn't been off in so long that the hoses were just about glued to the filter, so it was a real struggle to get it off. After getting it off, he blew through it and very little air was making its way through the filter.
$10 later at AutoZone, I had a new filter. I installed it and the car started just fine. I love living near people with brains warped enough to know how to work on cars.

Congrats on the quick fix! That's always a HUGE blessing. There are few things more stressful than a car that won't start.
I'm glad you got your car fixed. When we have a problem with our cars, we call my brother-in-law for answers if Mike can't answer it. My brother-in-law is a mechanic that owns his own business. He is so smart when it comes to cars! Well, he's smart in other things too but especially when it comes to cars.
Nice brain. I think my gustatory area is about twice as big as the one detected - unfortunately. Glad your car works. I hate cars.
Now lets get the lawn mower problems worked on.
