A broken nose!

Caleb got bumped at school because someone tripped behind him and fell into him, then he hit his nose on the person's head in front of him and his nose snapped.

Sure enough it was broken.

He is now at the ENT getting it set.

I'll keep you updated.

Oh, poor Caleb. What a bummer!

There was too much swelling to set the nose, so we have to wait till Thursday to get it set.

By the way, Chelsey, I heard you had racoon eyes when you fell down the stairs in Nebraska.

that just sounds painful. It makes my eyes water thinking about it. your family seems to go thru so many doctor visits. I guess that's what happens with five boys. Give Caleb our best!

How do they set a nose? Does he have to be put out or just numbed? Is he able to go to school? Poor kid!! (Poor parents, too!) We love you, Caleb!

Oh yes. Me and my racoon eyes. I fell down the stairs at the capital building in Lincoln, NE. I had 2 black eyes. Of course, mom thought it'd be funny to put me in a black and white dress (which I remember liking until I looked like a racoon)!

Wow, sorry for the big Kay. That is a tough one. I had nose surgery once and had my nose packed with stuff for a long time. The day they took it out was quite memorable, and I will not sicken you further.

So, I assume he will have to wear one of those face braces to protect him now.

Was the fall on purpose, that is, did he get tripped on purpose? This could be a serious matter.

Hope it turns our well. Luck to you big Kay.

Caleb wasn't tripped. Somebody tripped behind him and fell into him. Then Caleb fell forward and his nose hit the head of the person in front of him, thus causing the break. Caleb is so tall that he towers over most everyone, including me, so that's why when he fell he hit someone's head.

About Ice Cream. Caleb is totally addicted to ice cream. He has it almost every day. Just when I thought we'd have no more in the house, more appears and he always seems to be sneaking around with a cup and a spoon.

Who teaches people to eat ice cream and cereal in a cup? My boys love to do this, it drives me nuts. the reason it drives me crazy is because they then leave cups sitting around with a piece or two of dried cereal or dried ice cream in it and then I have to soak the cup for a while to get that out. EWE! And all my boys get caught drinking straight from the milk container. I now have been traumatized. I can only drink milk when it is brand new, otherwise I have no idea how many mouths have drank straight from the container.

Caleb's addiction to ice cream means he'd fit in nicely here in Utah!

I remember many a times sneaking a cereal snack in a cup. I never would have had a bowl of cereal in the middle of the day, but I had no problem having a cup of cereal. It seemed, for some weird reason, okay. -Jess

The reason we all had cereal in a cup (which we did in the middle of the day, rather than in the evening or morning), was because we thought we were being sneaky. We thought we could hide it better from mom in a cup. When she would come by, I'd pretend that it was just water I was drinking. I'd hide the spoon down in the glass and pretend to just drink it. That's what we all did, at least us younger generation. :) (notice that i can be part of the older and younger generation of kids. isn't that great!).

The real test of teenage prowess was to be able to sneak something while Mom was in the room. I succeeded at that only one time (at least I think I did). The key was getting her used to you being around. So I would go into the kitchen, open the cupboard and get something out (for Mom) while in the mean time edging the item of interest into a sneakable position. After doing this several times, Mom would just ignore me, enabling me to sneak the candy out of the cupboard. Another useful method was to enlist somebody's help to distract Mom while you did the deed. This of course meant you had to share. If you got caught, sharing was good though. Unfortunately, as the oldest, I had to bear the brunt of the punishment - yes, you are all welcome. As bad as that all was, I am now a much sharper eyed parent. Caleb has a much more difficult time slipping things past me. Sometimes I just ignore it (much as I am sure Mom and Dad did) because it isn't worth the argument but sometimes it is so fun to see the look on his face when he realizes that he has been caught. It is one of the true joys of parenthood.

yeah, I just let my dad think he's caught me. I have to give him a bone every once in a while or he'll catch me doing other stuff. Are you guys taking notes?

Good News on Caleb's Half Birthday!

Caleb's Nose is NOT broken. We were all just at Dr. Hansen's office and he looked at the nose. Most of the swelling had gone down and Marlan wiggled it and said that if it was broken Caleb would be screaming when he touched the nose and even though Caleb says he has a high pain tollerance, he still would have made some noise when Marlan moved the nose around if it was broken and Caleb just sat there unamuzed.

Caleb said he's not giving up his "Get out Gym for 2 weeks pass" he's going to use it as much as he can. Let's just call him LAZY!
