Newest Deacon

Ammon passed his interview with the bishop last night and so on Sunday, Oct. 14, he will be ordained a deacon. For any of the boys that live close by, you are invited to join in the ordination which will be during priesthood around 1 p.m.
The bishop had a big grin on his face after he excused Ammon and then called us in to his office. He said that Ammon answered every question correctly and is definitely ready to serve in this priesthood capacity. Ammon had one worried question that he asked the bishop. He asked the bishop what would happen to him (Ammon) if he spilled a tray of water or bread on the floor. The bishop reasurred him that it would be ok and that he didn't need to worry about that because he was sure Ammon would learn to pass the trays without spilling anything.
Ammon will get a tray to fit on his power chair made by Shriner's Hospital. That should be done on the 16th of this month. It's a great missionary tool -- most personnel at Shriner's are not LDS and so we got to explain why we needed this tray. Ammon will be able to set the sacrament trays on his tray so as not to spill anything. The ward has also ordered the lighter plastic trays just for Ammon.
They will assign the boys the responsiblity of helping Ammon get where he needs to get and will also have assignments for the boys to help him in scouts. Ammon will do what he can with scouts, but it will basically be for the commraderie, not the merit badges.
This was the entry in my book of notes that recognizes God's hand in day-to-day events written last night.

Hey Mom, the BSA has requirements that fit those with physical disabilities, so Ammon should have work arounds for merit badges that require physical exertion.

Glad Ammon is progressing and to the point of getting the Priesthood. Way to go, buddy!

That's awesome Ammon! Do any of you remember the dyslexic priest in our Logansport ward? Was his name Josh? I just remember how proud the whole ward was of him when he was finally able to give the sacrament prayers without mixing up the words. I think it made us all think about the sacrament's sigificance a little more. Hopefully Ammon will have the same effect on your ward.

Jared Highbee/Hybee. Can't remember how to spell it. He had many struggles with that prayer.

Way to go Ammon! I'm so proud of you. You will be an awesome Deacon and no one will care if some bread or water is spilt. Good luck. I'm sorry we can't be there to see you pass it for the first time.

That's funny that you can't remember how to spell Jared's last name. (if you know what I mean)
