I know that most of you are parched and brown but we have more rain than we need. We are lucky that the flooding that is occuring around here is limited. Nothing like they are getting in Ohio. They have been getting up to 12" of rain in one night. Those of you who are a little older may remember the flash flooding we had in NE the summer of 1983. We have been getting storms like those. It is hard not to be facinated by the sheer amount of water that falls in such a short period of time. Our basement has to this point remained dry and I am hoping that it stays that way.
Did Dave make it home safely? How was the homecoming? I can just see him sitting on the edge of his bed this morning at 6:30 feeling lost. The best thing about coming home was being able to be alone. For about the first week after I got home, I kept checking the knot of my tie (although I wasn't wearing one) every time I got out of the car. It was disconcerting and a little embarrassing.
The first week of school is almost over. I think that everyone is secretly glad to be back in school. Caleb seems to be enjoying seminary (he actually got up before me this morning) and Dan is loving football. He got his pads two days ago and we bought him a mouth guard last night. Today will be their first practice with pads. I can't wait until his first game. Scott loves the bus and seems to be enjoying school also although he told me that he got into trouble the other day because he said shut up (he claims he didn't). Scott also said family prayer last night all by himself for the first time. For some reason, he doesn't like to say prayers out loud but last night he did it. My baby is growing up.
About a month ago, the head gymnastics coach here at UI showed up in my BodyStep class and has since become a regular both in my class and Michelle's. Within a week of starting she had her strength and conditioning coach attend also. In short, they are signing a contract with our gym to have Michelle and I teach step classes specifically for the women's gymnastics team. This ought to be fun.

It was fun to see Dave last night. He's tall.
The one thing I heard him say was "I see all this light everywhere. It's crazy." It is different seeing a bunch of active LDS folks around you.
He also said "I'm going to throw away a lot of CDs." Here's to hoping I can get another country convert...
I don't know why, but I'm amazed at the start day for schools. The UofU and UVU already started school but BYU isn't until after Labor Day I think. Kinda crazy that school is back in session.
Sooooo glad this is my first year in three that I'm not heading back to school.
Jason - that's so great about your step classes. You guys are amazing! I still wish you were near so I could go to your classes, too.
And good for Scotty! What a big boy.
I wish I could post some pictures from last night, but I forgot my camera! Leaving the house is such a big production these days that I always seem to leave stuff behind and last night it was the camera (oh - and Ella's pacifier). I'm sure someone will post some pictures soon, though. Dave seems really happy and it's great to have him home now.

Country? Oh, Jess, what happened to you? You used to be so normal.
I've been country since my mission! We heard country everywhere we went in Nebraska and Iowa, so when I got home, it was a sort of nostalgia. And it seemed a lot more tame than the other music at the time.
