Just like the Wicked Witch of the West

It has been almost exactly (2 days shy) 7 years since we moved here to Iowa. The day we moved in I remember being so miserably hot and sticky that I just wanted to get back into the moving van and move back to Idaho. The last couple of days have been just like that. I knew that yesterday was going to be bad when the temperature was 78 degrees at 4:30 in the morning. My sunglasses fog up when I go outside. Last night I was puttering around the garage building a workbench and within 20 minutes I had sweat dripping off my elbows, my ears, my nose, puddling in my eyebrows, and running down my back. I thought I was going to melt. I am thankful that I am not 100 miles further south where they are enjoying this same humidity and 10-20 degrees hotter weather.

I was able to go down to the Nauvoo pagent last Tuesday. It was very nice. Several men from our ward were there to provide security and medical assistance. It is a great opportunity to serve and at the same time enjoy the spirit of Nauvoo. It is such a powerful place. As I walked through the grove of trees just west of the Temple where the Prophet preached many of his sermons, the spirit was overpowering. I could almost imagine myself being in Nauvoo in the early 1840s listening to Joseph Smith teach. Michelle was able to go down a couple of days later with a friend of hers. She spent the entire day in Nauvoo and also was able to go to the Carthage Jail. I think she was as impressed with the spirit as was I. We are so fortunate to live in a place that is so rich in Church history.

Got to get back to work. We have a new post-doc in the lab that I am teaching to do some protein work today and my timer is about to go off.

It looks like everyone had a good time at the reunion. I wish we could have been there.

We wish you could have been at the reunion, too - you were missed.
And thank you for the descriptive explanation about how you were sweating. I was just talking to a friend yesterday about how some people sweat so much easier than others. I guess you are one of the people it comes easy to. :)
We really do miss you guys!

Anyone will sweat in that Iowa summer heat and humidity. If you did not you should be really worried.

I am thrilled to hear of your feelings for Nauvoo. I hope you can plant that feeling in your kids, too. What a special opportunity, and challenge.

I think we are one of the lucky states to get that extra 10 degrees with the 70% humidity. I thought we were going to die this past week out here in Ohio! It felt like walking into a steamy bathroom after a hot shower. Yuck! Even the air conditioners didn't feel as cold as they should've. Thankfully the last 2 days have been better. They said with the heat index it was somewhere around 110 degrees. Fall can come early this year if it wants to!
