I know that I have said in the past that I really hate rain but I sure wouldn't complain about right now. I'm sure you folks out West would like some also. I don't want the rain so much because my grass is dry but rather because it would clear some of this humidity out. Stepping outside is like walking into a cloud of hot water. It is so humid that every corn field has a cloud hanging over it. Yesterday, there was so much moisture in the air that the sun had that dark orange hue so familiar to those of you who live in wild fire country. Maybe it will rain one of these days. I know that I really have no right to complain, though. At least my grass is still green and I haven't had to water it yet this year.
Caleb is now 14. We take everybody out to dinner on birthdays. Caleb decided that he wanted to go to the Old Country Buffet (Barfarama). The first thing Jared did as we walked in was to tell the host that it was Caleb's birthday. Caleb had been adament that we were to keep quiet. He gave Jared a dirty look and asked the host not to say anything. Usually, birthday's are announced over the loud speaker and left at that. About 15 minutes into our meal, the announcement came - followed by members of the staff and pink balloons. Everybody around us clapped and wished Caleb a happy birthday. I don't think I have ever seen him that embarrassed. His face was as bright red. Michelle thought it was great and laughed for nearly 5 minutes. I think he had a good birthday eventhough he had to spend part of it at band camp.
I hope Abby had a great 4th birthday and we are all glad she got her Dad back, too.

I can't even feel sorry for anyone over their weather! Ours has been horrible this whole summer. Yesterday we hit the 16th day of 100+ degrees this summer -- tied for second hottest summer in history. It's probably the driest, too. It's bad enough to go out into it, but our swamp cooler started to leak down into the attic and onto our kitchen ceiling so we had to turn it off on Saturday morning. It still isn't fixed and it is so hot in our house I want to die when I go inside. We try to stay in the basement as much as possible with lots of fans running on all of us throughout the night.
Did I ever say I hate heat?!? I hate heat and humidity mixed even more!! Bah humbug on summer weather. I love cool and cold much, much better.
I'm glad you had a great evening with Caleb! Good for the staff in singing to him.

Your swamp is leaking!? That's too bad. Our house, even with the swamp on "high cool" a few days ago, was still 87 degrees in the front living room. Unnacceptable. I got on my roof and noticed that out of the 8 hoses that are supposed to be distributing water, only 4 were working. So I went and got a new pump and hoses, installed them, and when I got home yesterday, the house was 78 degrees. Totally acceptable.
Sorry your swamp cooler is leaking. Maybe Adam and Lance can provide emergency repair service?
The big K only gets what he deserves. I am glad that he got the zealous recogintion that was spoken of in this post. He has done a lot to even make it to age 14 in his household.
I don't think I have ever heard a buffet called a "barfarama". I love that. Although, judging from my size one could conclude that I have spent far too much time in buffets and not enough time barfing. Maybe I should have been bulemic (sp).
By the way, what instrument does big K play?
Dad Clark
Sorry but I have to say that Oklahoma was much worse than Utah last year. We had at least 30 days recorded in a month and a half of 100 degrees or above. It was miserable and I was pregnant.
This year is much, much better. But I remember how awful it was and I feel bad for anyone that is getting such awful weather.
Caleb plays percussion. So basically he only needs drumsticks every where he goes. He has it easy at Band camp. He only has to show up 2-4 hours a day at the High school which has an airconditioned band room and they spend half the time in there learning the music. I had to carry around a super heavy trombone in 100 degree plus heat in the humid Ohio several hours at a far away band camp. It was miserable, but despite that there were great memories at Camp also.
Regarding Caleb, I finally was able to get some awesome pictures of him on his birthday. At first he wouldn't smile and I had more of him sticking his tongue out, but then he finally gave me a really nice smile at the end of the night. I think it was right after he opened his I-Pod shuffle. I'll post those later.
