Hi folks

I couldn't think of a more interesting subject heading, so "Hi folks" is what you get.

Yes, it is a little depressing. This morning, on my drive in to work around 8am, the temperature was 59 degrees. It was very windy, but pleasant temperatures. By lunch time, the temp had dropped such that it is now snowing outside. I shouldn't complain because any snow we get helps our dismal snowpack.

Speaking of snowpack, I came across a very interesting integration of Google Earth and NRCS Snotel data. It basically shows the water situation across the West in a spatial context. Across Utah, we've had a pretty dry winter (cold, but dry) and any additional snow is good for us. We need more water so we can satisfy our insatiable hunger and need for green grass in Utah, the 2nd driest state in the nation.

On another note, we signed Abby up for preschool next year and soccer starting this week. It was a little weird to see her all dressed up in her uniform yesterday. Am I really old enough to have a kid playing soccer at the local rec center? No wonder my back hurts.

I can't believe you guys are still getting snow. I know people are starting to get worried here because we have gotten very little rain. It has been in the 80's for about two weeks and all sunshine. Yesterday and today it cooled down, but no snow or rain. We got one tiny little snow storm this winter but it melted within an hour of it snowing. We haven't had rain since before my birthday. I'm not complaining though. I sure won't be the one praying for rain. I love that it's not typical German spring weather.

Little kids' soccer games are hilarious to watch. They all look like a swarm of bees chasing the ball. Sarah hasn't been too fond of soccer anymore since she took the ball to the face 2x last season. Flag football with Geoff is funny too. I think that's one of those sports where the dad's get into it a lot more than the boys do.

I just received word from Caleb's school, North West Junior High that they are in a Lockdown. Someone brought a gun to school.

Everyone is okay and it sounded like from the message that it was a pellet gun, so not a serious injury gun, but a gun and I'm sure that child will be suspended. Don't kids realize it's not a joke. I was just saying to Jason yesterday that it's just a matter of time before one of our children's schools have a gun in it. If I had patience I'd home school, but I'm not that brave yet, plus I don't believe it's best for most kids.

Well, that can't be fun for a parent or a kid at school, especially in light of events from earlier this week. Hope the situation is resolved quickly.

It's scary -- we had a lockdown at Ammon's school about a month ago. I realized that Ammon is basically a sitting (literally) duck -- he can't get under a desk or anything. It's beginning to be a very frightening world. I am always praying for our grandchildren because they have a tough world to face!
I'm glad Caleb and the other students are ok!
