Norwegian Test
This morning Mike is taking a Norwegian test. It is a four hour long test. Originally, he was a little nervous about it because depending on how well he did, he got paid anywhere from $50 to $100 a month just by knowing how to speak the language. But, they just changed that rule on July 1st. They won't pay for it anymore. He is still taking the test though because his supervisor told him that knowing Norwegian will give him a good chance to work in the Embassy in Norway. Since this is pretty much Mike's one change to ever live and work overseas, he is taking the test. Of course, this would be a long time in the future. Anyway, he has been studying for awhile--he prays to himself in Norwegian, reads his scriptures in Norwegian and some other church book (Jesus the Christ?) and ocassionally reads Will the kid scriptures that are illustrated in Norwegian. I'm sure he will do great.

Whaddya talking about? Mike could enlist in active duty and then I'm sure they'd allow him to work overseas!
I'm sure Mike the smart one will do fine on his test. Good thing he served that mission thing, right?
He missed eight out of about 160 questions. The original test gave you a 1 out of 4 (4 being the highest rank) but the test they gave him only ranked to a 3. He said it was the equivalent of a 4+. I don't know if that makes sense. Anyway, obviously he did great!
Congratulations, smarty pants!! I just hope that doesn't mean you will leave for overseas too soon! Man, my kids are really spreading out all over the place! I can't quite decide how I feel about that.
Congratulations Mike! Brent and I always thought it would be an awesome opportunity to work overseas. Traveling overseas all the time without the fam is one thing, but living there would be a neat experience for your kids. Good luck with it all!
Mike still has two years here in OK and then he wants to get his Masters which will most likely send him to Ohio. So, it will be at least 4 years or so. No worries. He was very excited to hear that he had an opportunity open to him to go overseas but no one has to worry yet...it's a long way off. I told him we could go to Norway and then spend the rest of our lives by family. By that time everyone will be gone though....It is a good plus that he did so well on his test though!!
Congratulations, Mike! I guess it is a good thing that you kept up on your language skills. I speak New English wicked good but that is about it.
I could take a test in Pigeon English. But I don't think that would get me to the Phillippines. We worked all over the Islands back then, and so had to speak a language that all could understand. Pigeon English was it. Now there are 14 or more missions there, and the elders stay in one area. We actually opened up the Islands. Our President was the first one in the Phillippine Islands.
And now Pigeon English has a whole new meaning to me, anyway.
Good job to you!
