My poor aching legs!

I have not been this sore for a long time. Just walking hurts. I competed in my first triathlon this morning. Actually, competed probably isn't the right word, participated is more like it. To have competed, I needed to be about 25 minutes faster. I ended up in 148th place (out of 263, I think). I finished the race in 1h 30m and 16s. Overall, I was very pleased with my effort. I did the 500 meter swim in 12 minutes (I think), the 15 miles ride in 47 minutes, and the 5 K run in 28 minutes. I was hoping to do the swim in 10 minutes and the ride in under 45 minutes but had planned on at least 30 minutes for the run. Running is my worst event so I was pleased that I did as well as I did. It is a little disheartening to see people you passed during the ride come blazing by you on the run. I had a number of people pass me on the run including a teenage girl and a 60+ year old man. The overall winner of the race finished in 1:07. I had a blast and plan on doing this again. Of course, it might take until this time next year for my legs to return to normal. I am just thankful that my feet are feeling okay (I have plantar faciitis). If any of you have ever considered doing a triathlon, I would definately suggest that you just do it. There is nothing quite like the feeling of crossing the finishing line.

Jason, you are quite the stud. Congrats on finishing the competition. I'm not sure my lungs would endure the swim, my back the bike ride, and my foot the run. I've actually never run a 5k in my life, although I have done a few 15 mile bike rides. That would easily be my best part. I guess I can run if you put a mitt or basketball in my hand.

Glad you didn't die on your race. Who would've cured cancer?!

Jason, I am so impressed that you ran it that fast after swimming and riding. That is awesome! I ran in a 5k once and I wasn't planning on actually competing--just running it. It was very last minute and my friend asked me to do it with her. It was so much fun. Even though I've already done it, I still get nervous thinking about doing it again--and it was only a 5K! Good job!

Congratulations, kiddo! Wow! This is impressive and I think it's really great that you planned for this, prepared for it, and then completed the goal. That has to feel good!

I think it's cute that Mom still calls Jason "kiddo." I read that and immediately smiled.

Your not the only one Jess. I read "kiddo" and thought, "who is mom kidding?" Jason's not a kiddo anymore, but maybe more so now that he's done a triatholon. I could never do that in my entire life. Maybe the swimming part, but my butt hurts just thinking about a bike seat! Ouch!! Congrats Jason. I'm sure Hans would have loved to do something like that with you. He just had his PT test yesterday morning. After maxing out on the run, he threw-up from running so hard. He's quite a fast runner. I'm proud of you Jason.
