Today we have church, as do the rest of you, and while there was a time in my life when I felt happy to go to church, I am finding myself dreading it a lot of the times now. I have to remind myself that I don't go to church for someone to uplift me or for social reasons. Rather, it is my responsibility to prepare myself to have the spirit. I recongnize all this. I do however, want to share a little something about our ward that maybe will help you understand why I sometimes dread going to our ward. Yesterday Mike spent all day at a boy scout car wash. There were two other leaders there--the teacher advisor and the Young Mens president. He left after a few minutes. Big surprise. He usually doesn't attend anything so having him there for a few minutes was a stretch for him. He doesn't attend Young Men's on Wed. very often and he misses church all the time. This is the same president that went to a boys scouts camp out and made the eleven year olds sleep away from the rest of the group "because they weren't real scouts yet" and made one of the scouts eat a cow patty. Why? Because the boy threw some at him. Somehow I don't see how getting dried cow poop thrown at you is quite the same as eating it. This is just one example of the crazy happenings of this ward. I should say, there are some very nice, good people in this ward.
Anyway, Will needs a nap. I also think you should all know that I am 32 weeks on Tuesday. If this baby comes when Will came, I have only six more weeks! Here's hoping.

Jen's folks have similar problem with the Young Men's in their ward. The leaders rarely show, don't call the boys when they decide to cancel, and generally don't show much interest. Jen's brother Ryan (now 17 yrs. old) has really had a lame youth experience in his ward during the last three years.
I think Mike and I have the same calling (2nd Counselor), but I feel very fortunate to have excellent leaders around me. I attend all Wed. night activities, but I'm just there for crowd control and don't run the show. I get to teach every Sunday, and the Scoutmaster attends that class every week with me. I'm very lucky with the current setup in our ward.
I wish you enjoyed your ward better. I really enjoy the social aspect of our ward as much as anything. We've made some good friends in this ward and we had a dang good basketball team (that wasn't my fault).
