Our first Sunday in our new home. It is amazing how relaxed you can be with a change in environment. Even though there are still boxes all over the place and piles of yet-to-be-put-away items towering like downtown Chicago, I am much more at ease in this house than I was in our last house. It is a very comfortable feeling.
We are getting ready to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Willey and Martin handcart companies departure from Iowa City to the Salt Lake valley this coming week. I wish you could all be here. Every year for the past 8 or so years we have had a handcart festival around this time of year. It is usually very small with one day of pioneer activities (stick pulling contests and the like) but it has been getting bigger the last couple of years. This year it is going to be a three day event starting with lectures about the pioneers from LDS and non-LDS historians/writers and will culminate with a worldwide broadcast from Hancher Auditorium in which both President Hinckley and Elder Packer will be in attendance. Several of our children will be singing in the primary children's choir at the meeting. Also, two weeks from today will be our stake conference that will be presided over by Henry B. Eyring. Iowa City is a special place. There are a lot of good people here both in and not yet in the Church. We feel very fortunate to be living here.
Good luck at your recital, Gillian. I wish we could be there.

Glad you guys made it in okay. It must feel great being in a home that, as Michelle said, you guys could be in for a long time.
I showed up in Nebraska on my mission right after the 150th year anniversary of the pioneers and we were still feeling the residual effects when tracting. I did find it pretty fun to drive down streets in Iowa and Nebraska and find signs that claimed to be part of the Mormon Trail, or places that signified it as a former camp spot for the Mormon pioneers.
I'm excited for your kids to be able to sing when the prophet is near. I'll never forget the opportunity I had to sing with mom in a womens choir at the Arco Arena when Pres. Benson presided over our regional conference. It's a neat feeling they won't forget.
Have fun unloading all your stuff. This is always the most fun for me. I love to redecorate!
Boy, that comment about redecorating is really something. I have heard moving called lots of things, but never redecorating!
